Akron Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident involving a bicyclist from early Tuesday morning. 

According to the report, police responded to the intersection of South Broadway and East Exchange Streets for an accident involving injuries. There, they found a bicyclist that was hit by a car that reportedly jumped the curb, hit the man on the bicycle, and continued off the road into a parked car. 

The cyclist was taken to Akron General Hospital where he died. His name has not been released yet. 

The driver, only identified as a 50-year-old male, was taken to Summa Akron City Hospital with minor injuries. 

The investigation into the crash is ongoing and no charges have been filed yet, but investigators do believe that alcohol was a factor. 

William Lavery, 70, of Akron is facing a lot of charges, including Driving Under the Influence, after he drove his 2011 Hyundai Sante Fe into the Dunkin' Donuts at 3305 Manchester Road Saturday morning. 

The Summit County Sheriff's Office is reporting that Lavery was in the drive thru line at the store when he backed into the car behind him, which in turn hit the car behind it. Then, Lavery drove forward into another car, causing that car to hit the car in front of it. After that, Lavery side-swiped anotehr car before driving right through the front of the store, hitting a patron inside. 

Three people were taken to Akron General with minor injuries. Lavery was taken to Summe Health's Barberton campus, treated for minor injuries. 

Now he's charged with DUI, Driving Under Suspension, Failure to Control, and Negligent Assault. 

An Akron Police Motorcycle Officer was seriously injured when he was pinned underneath the van of a suspected drunk driver after a crash Saturday night. 

According to the APD report, the officer was on his motorcycle and was attempting to stop another vehicle at the intersection of South Portage Path and Bloomfield Avenue, when Corrie Sharpe, 65, who was driving her minivan eastbound on Bloomfield, failed to yield to the officer. She collided with the officer's motorcycle, sending him off the bike and pinning him underneath her van. 

The officer was transported to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital with serious injuries. Other officers responding to the scene conducted a field sobriety test and gave Sharpe a breathalyzer, both of which she reportedly failed. The report states that her blood alcohol content registered at .125; the legal limit in Ohio is .08. Sharpe was arrested and charged with OVI, Aggravated Vehicular Assault, and Child Endangering, as her 11-year-old granddaughter was reportedly in the back seat of her van. 

As of Sunday morning, the officer involved in the accident was still listed in serious condition. 

Todd Casten, 47, of Ravenna Township was arrested early Monday morning after he allegedly drove his car into a Portage County Sheriff's cruiser... in reverse.

He was drunk... allegedly.

According to the press release from the Portage County Sheriff's Office, at about 1:20 Monday morning, one of his deputies was parked at the Circle K in Blackhorse, Ravenna Township, when he noticed Casten acting peculiarly. When he pulled out of the parking lot, Casten drove his car off the road, into a ditch. That's when the deputy turned on his emergency lights and attempted to stop Caten, who put his car in reverse and hit the gas, ramming into the deputy's cruiser. Casten then pulled away, trying to flee, but the deputy followed him, calling for backup. Not too far from the Circle K, on Spring Street, Casten stopped his car, and attempted to run, fighting with deputies in the process. 

He was eventually arrested, charged with felony assault on an officer, failure to comply, resisting, and... his 10th OVI. 

He's reportedly still being held in the Portage County Jail. 

Sean Michael Blackburn. 33, of Akron has been charged with Aggravated Vehicular Homicide for allegedly killing a 21-year-old Cuyahoga Falls man in a drunk driving accident back on April 7th.

According to the police report, Blackburn, who was driving while intoxicated, crossed North Main Street into oncoming traffic and hit Thomas Leslein's car head on.

Leslein died, two others in his car were seriously injured.

Blackburn denied being the driver, telling police that he was "too drunk to drive" and that another patron he was with at a local bar was driving his car. Blackburn reportedly even claimed at one point he didn't know who he was. Police say they found the keys to his car in his pants pocket. The police report shows that Blackburn blew a 0.119 in a BAC field test. 

Akron Police Sgt. Vince Yurick has resigned his position with the City after entering a guilty plea in court last on charges he was driving under the influence when he crashed his car last August. 

The accident happened August 7, 2016, around 9 p.m., when police say Yurick, 46, went left of center, struck a curb, and smashed into a tree on Canterbury Circle. His was was a passenger in Yurick's vehicle and suffered a brain injury in the crash. 

Yurick plead guilty to charges of aggravated vehicular assault, a fourth degree felony, and operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol, which is a first-degree misdemeanor. After 19 years with the police, Yurick was forced to resign. He is due for sentencing in Summit County on April 28; he's facing 18 months in jail. 

The Summit County Sheriff's Office is conducting two OVI Checkpoints in Akron and Coventry Township. 

In a press release, the Sheriff's Office says the Akron locaiton is 750 S Main St. between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. The second location in Coventry Township will be located at 3680 Manchester Rd. between 12 a.m. and 2 a.m. Saturday. They say the checkpoints will be in conjunction with nearby "saturation patrols" to aggressively combat drunk driving. 

The Sheriff's Office is encouraging those who plan on having any alcohol to drink to designate a sober driver or find another ride home. 

One person was arrested for OVI and just under a dozen others were arrested on other charges during Friday's sobriety checkpoints in Barberton.

The Summit County OVI Task Force reports one person was busted for OVI, but eight others were arrested for driving under suspension and another is facing a meth charge.

More than 400 vehicles passed through the checkpoints on 31st Street and Wooster Road.

The first checkpoint was conducted at 98 31st Street:

262- Vehicles passed through the checkpoint in total

15- Vehicles were directed into the diversion area for further investigation or violations

01- Person was arrested for OVI

02- People were arrested for driving under suspension

02- Vehicles were impounded

The second checkpoint was conducted at 939 Wooster Road North:

149- Vehicles passed through the checkpoint in total

18- Vehicles were directed into the diversion area for further investigation or violations

06- People were arrested for driving under suspension

01- Person was arrested for misdemeanor possession of drugs

01- Person was arrested on a felony warrant

01- Person was arrested for felony possession of Methamphetamine

03- Vehicles were impounded

The BAC result for the sole individual who provided a breath sample was .096.

UPDATE 9:58 AM 10/31/15: Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett will sit out next week's game after having been arrested for OVI.

Barrett was arrested for OVI early Saturday morning near campus. That's now been confirmed by Ohio State, which says head coach Urban Meyer has suspended Barrett for next week's game against Minnesota. The Buckeyes are off this week.

Barrett was reportedly arrested attempting to get around an OVI checkpoint, according to Columbus Police Department sources talking to the "ElevenWarriors" site. Barrett was said to be cooperative, and registered slightly over the legal blood alcohol limit.

He reportedly got a ride home from fellow OSU quarterback Cardale Jones.

The site says Barrett was arrested attempting to get around an OVI checkpoint, according to Columubs Police Department sources. It says he was cooperative, and registered slightly over the legal blood alcohol limit.

He reportedly got a ride home from fellow OSU quarterback Cardale Jones.

OSU hasn't yet commented on the story.

The Buckeyes are off this week - they are back at the Horseshoe next Saturday hosting Minnesota.
