Ray Horner Podcast - 12/25/2019

:19 - With it being Christmas, Tony found some Christmas songs for Ray to guess the singer. These are all songs by popular actors and entertainers, though some may not necessarily be Christmas classics.

7:54 - For his birthday, Ray and his family headed to the movie theater and saw Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Ray gave it his OK without spoilers, and Tony talks about how he wasn’t as impressed with The Irishman.

14:56 - Could Freddie Kitchens be fired after Sunday’s game? Another Fred joined the show, as the Orange & Brown Report’s Fred Greetham shared his thoughts on Kitchens’s job security.

19:20 - Would you be willing to try CBD-infused activewear? Apparently that’s a thing these days.

21:47 - The Cavaliers sent Jordan Clarkson to the Utah Jazz for Dante Exum and two second-round picks. Ray and Kris Drew touched on what this trade will mean.

:19 - After an offseason of hype and happiness, the Cleveland Browns have been mathematically eliminated from playoff contention. Ray and Tony dug into the corpse of the Browns, who will look to avoid another double-digit loss season.

Ray Horner Podcast - 11/5/2019

:19 - Today kicks off the Salvation Army Red Kettle Drive, and if you’re shopping in the greater Akron area, you’ll probably see a red kettle and a bellringer next to it. Major Stephen Stoops from the Salvation Army joined the program to urge any listeners if they have any time to be a volunteer bellringer these next several weeks.

5:15 - The Browns have parted ways with Jermaine Whitehead after he posted several threatening and racially-tinged tweets at fans and an analyst. Head coach Freddie Kitchens didn’t offer much in his Monday press conference, as discussed by Tony and Kris Drew here.

9:00 - From Malone University, political science professor Dr. David Beer touched on the whistleblower case and how the country looks as far as impeachment goes.

14:27 - The panel got into a brief conversation about Gone With the Wind, as Vivien Leigh was born this date in 1913, as well as the film being 80 years old.

18:36 - Mark Gerberich is the president of the Soap Box Derby, and he stopped by to mention the derby’s new robotics program.

Ray Horner Podcast - 11/4/2019

:19 - Losing to Brandon Allen and the Denver Broncos is bad. But the Browns have now gone off the rails, from their receivers wearing the wrong cleats, their quarterback can’t hit the open players, and a defensive player threatens people on social media. Everything is fine though, right? Ray and Tony broke down the game, and did so later on in the podcast, as well.

8:11 - In more positive news, FirstEnergy will remain in downtown Akron through 2035, extending their original lease by a decade. President and CEO of FirstEnergy Chuck Jones joined Ray and assured the listeners of the company’s commitment to Akron.

14:27 - What if you became the CEO of McDonald’s? What would you do differently? I mean, besides having inappropriate relationships with employees.

17:07 - Back to the Browns. Ray and Tony touched on the lack of accountability in the locker room.

Ray Horner Podcast - 10/28/2019

:19 - It’s been a while since we had Dr. John Green on as a political analyst, as he heads up the Bliss Institute of Applied Politics, and he joined the show to touch on his brief tenure as interim president of the University of Akron. Dr. Green also talked about politics in the age of Donald Trump and mentioned the slate of candidates on the Democratic ticket.

11:11 - The Browns looked bad in many ways during Sunday’s contest against the New England Patriots in a 27-10 loss. From fumbles to penalties to questionable coaching decisions, Ray and Tony agree that Freddie Kitchens is just not head coaching material.

18:24 - What type of dog food is best for your pooch? Dry food from the bag or wet food from the can? Our veterinarian Dr. Gary Riggs answered those questions.

Ray Horner Podcast - 9/23/2019

:19 - The Browns had a great chance to tie or even take the lead late in the game against the Los Angeles Rams….until some suspect play calling ended the contest, 20-13, in favor of LA. Ray and Tony had a field day discussing Freddie Kitchens and his head-scratching play calls, which included a 4th & 9 draw play in the fourth quarter, and four-straight incomplete pass attempts inside the five yard line.

5:45 - It’s a Monday show, and our veterinarian Dr. Gary Riggs stopped by to answer questions on your pets. Some of those questions included organ troubles, including urinary track issues.

14:19 - The Buckeyes easily took care of Miami of Ohio over the weekend, 76-5. Why are these butt-whooping contests being scheduled? Is it all about money? That’s what the panel believes.

20:59 - Would you run with the bulls? How about swimming with sharks? Maybe head north and take on the Iditarod? Ray mentioned a few of these extreme adventures.

Ray Horner Podcast - 1/11/2019

:17 - Today’s Bride will be at the John S. Knight Center in Akron this weekend for a bridal show. Producer Tony is in the early stages of planning a wedding, and while he and his fiancee Leah are still looking for venues, it certainly won’t be a destination wedding.

8:20 - Former NFL player and local high school coach Jay Brophy came on the show to talk about a few football items. First, Ray and Jay talked about the hiring of Freddie Kitchens, then they mentioned the Rooney Rule and lack of minority coaches, and finally on this weekend’s games.

25:29 - Speaking of this weekend, Saturday is the annual TribeFest, held at the Cleveland Convention Center. Indians director of communications Curtis Danburg joined the program to preview the event.

30:42 - January 11th is the anniversary of the death of Paul Lynde, a favorite of Tony’s. As a tribute, they touched on the life and times of the hilarious star of Hollywood Squares.

35:19 - And finally, it’s Friday, so our movie guy Scott Wynn stopped by. Aquaman still tops the charts, and a new buddy comedy with Kevin Hart and Bryan Cranston is out in theaters.

Ray Horner Podcast - 1/10/2019

:17 - With this being the first full work week of the new year, some may have issues getting back into the rhythm of sleep. Is the goal eight hours a night? And can one make up sleep with naps? Those questions were answered by Valerie Linzey, a certified nurse practitioner with Cleveland Clinic-Akron General.

7:22 - Staying on the topic of sleep, the panel discussed their own sleeping habits, which may differ from others due to the early schedule. Tony mentions a serious of videos in the ASMR genre, which include a straight edge razor shaving a scruffy face, which makes Jeanne cringe.

12:34 - The smoke turned white in Berea yesterday, as the Browns finally have their head coach. Freddie Kitchens takes over due to his relationship with Baker Mayfield, but he now has to assemble a staff. Who’s on the short list?

23:38 - This particular segment began about McDonald’s adding more bacon to their menu, and that segued into oddball items one puts on food from family traditions. A few callers chimed in with their own funky sandwiches, many of which included peanut butter as a main ingredient.

:17 - We kicked off Tuesday’s show with Senator Sherrod Brown and his help with TSA and workers during the government shutdown.

9:06 - A familiar name in the Akron area (and to our show) is Laura Lyn. She is a psychic and she is taking some folks in the bowels of the old B.F. Goodrich stacks to check on paranormal activity.

20:32 - So far, Ray has chatted with the mayors of Cuyahoga Falls, Barberton, Green, and Akron, and now we “circle” around and talk to Tallmadge mayor David Kline.

26:32 - Smartphone sales waned a bit during Christmastime, at least compared to previous years. Does Apple need a shot in the arm? Is Samsung really cleaning up at the marketplace?

36:35 - And finally, we’re at this coaching search once again for the Browns. Now that Bruce Arians is off the board, could it be Mike McCarthy? How about Freddie Kitchens as both OC and head coach?
