Once again, the property at 15 Broad Street in Akron's Middlebury neighborhood is being given the "cease and desist" order by the City of Akron, after it was found that homeless people were sleeping there, against the previous orders of the city.
Earlier this year, Sage Lewis with Akron's Homeless Charity and owner of the property at 15 Broad St., was ordered to close down the Tent City homeless encampment on his property, in spite of his efforts to rezone the property to operate within the law.
Now, Lewis has once again been given a deadline for those living on the property to move out; this time he has until Friday, July 26th.
Lewis tells the Jasen Sokol Show on 1590 WAKR and 93.5 FM that he made everyone aware of the rule that barred anyone from sleeping on his property and that he did not know that it was still happening.
"Every single person that was sleeping in my building knew that was my mantra," Lewis said. "We knew it absolutely black and white. There was not one person that didn't know that that was the cold hard truth, but they did it anyways."
Since the most recent notification from the City of Akron, Lewis says that basically all of the services the Homeless Charity was providing for Akron's homeless population have stalled at the Middlebury property, including the pantry and day community center. He's hopeful, though, that he and the Homeless Chairty will still be able to provide services going forward, including mobile services Lewis says he's looking into.

For the last three years, I've been the announcer for several of the Akron Children's Hospital Akron Marathon Race Series events. It's become something I look forward to every year, but there has always been one thing about it that has been awkward for me:
I've never actually run a race.
Not a marathon, not a half marathon, not even a 5k. But that's about to change.
Brian Polen, the race director for the Akron Children's Hospital Akron Marathon Race Series, told me after last year's Goodyear Half Marathon and 10k that he wanted to see me run some races this year. I've never been one to jump at the opportunity to work out, but for some reason I said I would. When the weather began to warm up, Brian decided it was time for me to begin my training.
Over the next six months, I'll be preparing to run the National Interstate 8k in June, the Goodyear 10k in August, and the FirstEnergy Akron Half Marathon in September. I'll still be announcing the June and August races and covering the marathon for 1590 WAKR in September, so I'll be running each course about a week before the actual race. Brian has put together a complete training plan for me, and I'll be visiting Vertical Runner of Wooster (which is owned by Brian and his wife Tammy) soon to get all the gear I need to put the plan into action.
I'll be documenting this journey through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Strava, and here on WAKR.net, and I'd love for you to join me! While you may have an idea of what a runner looks like, I've learned that there really is no one type of runner. People of all shapes, sizes, and fitness levels challenge the Blue Line each year and achieve their goals. I'll be taking part in this year's Blue Line Beginners program, and I hope I'll get to call your name when you cross the finish line this summer.
For more information or to register for the races, go to www.akronmarathon.org.

The Akron Marathon will be under way this weekend as runners from all over country and the world will look to put on display their will, determination, and athletic ability. Some runners will look to set their own personal marathon records while others will look to break world records. For Helen McWilliams she has a paticular Guinness Record in her sights. The Cleveland Cavaliers will tip off the 2015-16 season tomorrow night in the Windy City to take on the Chicago Bulls.
Our "Cavaliers Roundtable" consisting of Sam Bourquin, Brad Russell, Jasen Sokol, Ray Horner, and myself broke down the Cavs, their free agent moves, injury concerns, and who they could potentially face in the NBA Finals.
New additions include Richard Jefferson, Mo Williams, and Sasha Kaun.
Ray thinks this team might be the deepest in Cavaliers history.
"I think they really fortified themselves," Horner said. "You worry about the health of these guys, Irving, Varejao, Love, they haven't played a full season, so you worry about the health."
Both Brad and Jasen think that the Cavaliers will be challenged the most by the Bulls, with Jasen saying health is a key factor for them.
"They are the Cavs' biggest rival in the East, they have to stay healthy too to compete with Cleveland," he said. Brad feels that Fred Hoiberg being named the head coach after replacing Tom Thibodeau will constitute some growing pains for the Bulls.
"There's a lot of question marks there," Russell said.
As far as the West, Sammy B says the Spurs "scare him to death" with the additions of frontcourt players David West and LaMarcus Aldridge, while Aaron thinks OKC can get it done with Kevin Durant.
You can follow the Wine and Gold along their journey on 1590 WAKR throughout the regular season and the playoffs.
