APD Sergeant Charged In Crash

An Akron police sergeant has been charged in connection with a crash that left his wife seriously injured.

Vince Yurick is facing a list of charges including aggravated vehicular assault, operating a vehicle while impaired.

Akron police say Yurick was driving his car Canterbury Circle on Aug. 7 when he lost control, went left of center, and hit a tree. Yurick was injured and his wife suffered serious injuries. Authorities say speed and alcohol are both factors in the crash.

Yurick is scheduled for an arraignment hearing in Akron Municipal Court on Tuesday, August 30. Yurick is currently on paid administrative leave per the union contract

Kent Man Killed In 4-Car Crash

A four-car crash left one person dead and several others injured in Ravenna Friday afternoon. 
 
Troopers with the State Highway Patrol reports Curtis W. Williams, 67, of Kent, was not wearing a seat belt when he collided, head-on, with a vehicle after passing several cars while in the left turn only lane on SR 59. Williams' car struck the vehicle of Todd Fields, 47, of Akron, and then also struck two other vehicles.
 
Williams was pronounced dead on the scene. Police say Fields and two other were injured, but did not go to a hospital. Sarah Lavrich, 30, of Ravenna, was also driving one of the vehicles that was hit in the crash. Her one-year-old child was in the car with her. Both were taken to the hospital, but their injuries are not known.
 
The crash remains under investigation.

One Killed, 3 Injured In Coventry Twp. Crash

A fatal crash left one person dead and three others injured in Coventry Township early Wednesday morning.

The Summit County Sheriff's Office reports an SUV went off the right side of the roadway and struck the Swartz Road bridge on I-77 northbound.

A 74-year-old Elyria man, a passenger in the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and two passengers were taken to Akron area hospitals by the Coventry Fire Department. Deputies said the driver and one passenger were listed in critical condition.

The third passenger was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The crash is currently under investigation by the Summit County Sheriff's Crash Team.

Authorities say speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash at this point.

A 6-year old Tallmadge boy was critically injured after crashing a bicycle into a car Monday night on the southeast end of Akron.

It happened at Lucy Street and Duane Avenue just before 8pm.

Akron police say the child is at fault but won't get a ticket. The driver of the car did get a citation, not for the crash, but for driving under suspension.

A police reconstruction team is investigating further due to the seriousness of the boy's injuries.

Tallmadge Man Charged In Fatal Easter Crash

A Tallmadge man is facing charges in a car crash that killed a 17-year-old Akron girl on Easter morning.

Police believe 63-year-old Charles Queer Jr. was driving drunk when he rear-ended Patricia Powell's car that was stopped on the shoulder at I-76 near the South Arlington Street exit in Akron.

Police said Powell was having car troubles and pulled over to the side of the road with her emergency flashers on. 

Authorities said Queer was intoxicated at the time of the crash, over two times the legal limit.

Queer has been charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, failure to control, OVI and OVI-BAC.

Three Women Injured In Akron Car Crash

Three women were injured in a wreck after the car they were in crashed into a telephone pole in Akron late Sunday morning.

Fire officials say the car hit a pole and street sign in the 500-block of Cuyahoga Street shortly before 11:30 a.m.

At least one person may have been ejected from the car. All three women were taken to the hospital for treatment but their conditions are not known.

Fire officials say there was a dog in the car at the time of the crash, but there's no word on the whether the dog was injured.

Truck Crashes Into Brimfield Home

It was a scary night for residents in an Old Forge Road home in Brimfield Township after a pick-up truck crashed through the house Saturday night.

Brimfield police posted pictures from the crash on their Facebook page. Authorities say a group of boys were in the same room where the truck plowed through, but they were not hurt.

The driver of the truck was charged with OVI. 

A resident of Old Forge Rd. had a scare last night, as the driver of this vehicle veered off the road and into her house...

An Akron man is facing a list of charges after police say he was driving drunk -- nearly four times the legal limit -- and crashed into a tree at Tallmadge Circle Wednesday morning. Tallmadge police said Andrew C. Craig, 26, of Akron, has been charged with aggravated vehicular assault and OVI. Both Craig and the passenger were ejected from the car and seriously injured.

Craig's initial BAC registered .302. Police said evidence at the scene and Craig's statement places him behind the wheel.

The Summit Metro Regional Crash Team is assisting with the investigation.
