Bond Set For Suspect In Fatal Police Hit-Skip

The 44 year old Lorain man charged in connection with the hit-skip death of Cleveland Police officer David Fahey earlier this week, appeared in Cleveland Municipal court for the first time today.

Bond was sent at $500 thousand dollars for Israel Alvarez, who is charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, and felony hit-skip.

He is accused of leaving the scene after hitting Officer Fahey, who was setting up road flares at an accident site on I-90 in Rocky River, on Tuesday morning.

Suspect Arrested In Fatal Cleveland Hit Skip

Cleveland Police Patrolman David Fahey was killed when he was hit along I-90 Westbound in Rocky River around 6 a.m. Tuesday morning. 

Officer Fahey was providing assistance to an earlier accident when a white Toyota Camry hit him. He was transported to an area hospital where he died. 

After an hours-long manhunt, police in Lorain County located the suspect vehicle outside a home on E. 31st St. in the 11 a.m. hour. Authorities surrounded the home and shortly after noon, a suspect was in custody. 

No suspect information, nor charges have been released at the time of the arrest. 

Cleveland Police were assisting after a van had run into the back of a fire truck along I-90 near the Warren Rd. exit. That is when the driver of the 2000 Camry hit Officer Fahey and drove off. The highway was shut down for hours between the Innerbelt and Detroit Rd.

Deputies Look For Hit-Skip

An early morning Sunday hit-skip has Summit County deputies asking for help finding the driver of what's believed to be a Subaru Forrester who hit a man walking on South Main Street in Coventry Township.

The incident occured around 3:30 a.m. near the intersection of North Turkeyfoot Road; the victim suffered life-threatening injuries and was not carrying identification with him at the time he was hit. The unidentified man was taken to Akron General Hospital and police are also asking for help identifying the man as well as the driver of the hit-ski.

(Summit Sheriff) On Sunday January 8, 2017, at approximately 3:30 a.m., the Summit County Sheriff's Office responded to a call that a pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle in the southbound lanes of South Main Street near North Turkeyfoot Road in Coventry Township. The Summit Metro Crash Response Team is currently investigating the crash.

The victim is described as a white male and he had no identification with him at the time of the crash. He was transported to Akron General Hospital with life threatening injuries. The vehicle involved is believed to be a 2010-2013 Subaru Forrester.

Sheriff Investigating Fatal Stark Co. Hit-Skip

Update: Investigators have identified the victim of the fatal hit-skip as 60-year-old Dennis Slaton of Canton.

The Stark County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal hit-and-run accident in Plain Township. 

According to the report, a man's body was found along State Route 62 at Middlebranch Avenue NE in Plain Township around 10 p.m. Tuesday. When Sheriff's Deputies arrived he was confirmed dead on the scene. 

Witnesses say the vehicle that struck the man is a 2011 or 2012 Hyundai Sonata, though the color of the vehicle is unknown. Police say it likely has damage to the front passenger-side bumper and passenger-side mirror.
