Bond has been set for David Callaghan who is charged in the murder of his ex-girlfriend whose body was found in a shallow grave in his Crouse Street home over the weekend.

During an initial appearance, that lasted just a couple of minutes in Akron Municipal Court via a live video feed from the Summit County Jail, Judge Annalisa Williams put the bond at $2 Million. 

Robin Freitag had been missing since July. Police say she was killed August 6th, and that's when Callaghan buried her body. Local authorities dug up her remains Friday in the back yard of the home at 606 Crouse Street. 

Judge Williams announced that she would appoint an attorney for Callaghan. 

Akron Municipal Court– The Akron Municipal Court offices and courtrooms will close at Noon Tuesday, Tuesday, May 29, and will be open from 8:00 a.m. to NoonWednesday, May 30, due to extreme temperatures and the lack of air conditioning. The court will reschedule all hearings originally on the docket for this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon. This measure was taken for health and safety reasons.

The Clerk of Courts office will remain open on the 7^th  Floor only. Payments will continue to be accepted.

For those who had a hearing on the docket for this afternoon or tomorrow afternoon, your appointment will be rescheduled for Thursday or Friday. Please call (330) 375-2120 or the specific courtroom directly for further instructions.

A notice will be posted on the Akron Municipal Court website regarding the closure.

A fire in an electrical vault underneat the Everett Building located at 39 E. Market Street in downtown Akron lead to about 220 FirstEnergy customers sitting without power for about an hour Monday morning. 

According to Akron Fire Department, the fire started just before 7:30 Monday morning. As Akron Fire crews responded, FirstEnergy was called to the building to shut off power. Due to heavy smoke, Mark Durbin with FirstEnergy says crews could not access the vault to shut off power. They were forced to de-energize the nearest substation, which in turn shut off power to roughly 220 downtown FirstEnergy customers, Durbin says. 

As of 10:30 a.m., power to those most all of those customers had been restored. Durbin said power at the Everett Building and two nearby buildings was still affected at that time. 

Akron Fire was still on the scene as of 11:30 a.m., Monday, and power to the Everett Building had not yet been restored. 

Meanwhile, Akron Municipal Court offices closed their operations for the remainder of the day, Monday, as of 10 a.m. In a press release, Akron Municipal Court advised anyone with scheduled court business call the office on Tuesday for rescheduling instructions.
