Massillon Gradually Powering Down Affinity Site

Massillon city officials say they're looking to cut costs at the former Affinity Medical Center, that's currently not staffed, but still being powered and secured daily.

The average cost to manage the closed property, according to the Canton Rep, is roughly $6,800 per day, including utilities, maintenance, and building security.

Earlier in December, City Council gave the green light on a new deal with Aultman, that is assuming emergency and more services for Massillon residents.

Starting early 2019, Massillon will begin winding down most operations at the former Affinity site.

Canton Rape Suspect Nabbed In Georgia

The man accused of raping a woman after abducting her at Aultman Hospital has been caught - in Georgia.

The Repository reports that 30 year-old Norman L. Pryor was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force at an Atlanta library.

Canton police weren't alone in looking for Pryor.

Jackson Township had warrants on gross sexual imposition and public indecency charges. Sheriff's departments in Stark and Muskingum counties had warrants for failing to register address changes as a sex offender.

Police say the victim was abducted from a parking lot on the Aultman campus early Monday, and later sexually assaulted.

Pryor is expected to be extradited to Stark County, where he'll face a $7 million bond.

Stark Makes Arrest In 2009 Cold Case Murder

Stark County law enforcement thinks they've cracked a cold case murder.

A man now faces aggravated murder charges in the 2009 death of a nurse at Canton's Aultman Hospital.

NewsChannel 5 reports that authorities had no trouble finding Kenneth Roth - he was already behind bars at Elkton Correctional Institution on federal weapons charges.

Roth was indicted in late 2009 for the murder of Linda Smith earlier that year, who was found strangled in her home on Osnaburg Township.

Roth faces the new charges after a cold case investigation was launched by Stark County Sheriff George Maier in 2013.
