UPDATE: Police ID Woman Found in Barberton

UDPATE: Barberton Police have identified the woman whose body was found under a burning mattress Sunday evening just before 8:30 along South Van Buren Street, south of Eastern Road, which is actually about 20 feet from the Barberton city limit.

Barberton Fire was the first on the scene after the call of the mattress fire first came in.

 

On Monday after an autopsy, the Summit County Coroner's report indicates that 43-year-old Kerri N. Blondheim, whose most recent address was in Massillon, died from "homicidal violence." 

The State Fire Marshal's Office, along with Barberton Police detectives and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, are all investigating the case.

Pair In Court For Barberton Murder

Barberton police are putting a man and woman behind bars for a weekend shooting that left a Cleveland man dead at the scene. Justin Randle was found in the grass and died a short time later; witnesses fingered the shooters taking off in an SUV outside a home on Michigan Place; police stopped the vehicle, found a gun and shell casings in the vehicle.25-year old Akria Taylor and 26-year old Antonio Parra, both of the Cleveland area, arrested. Parra's facing murder, Taylor obstruction charges.

(Barberton PD) On January 15, 2017 at 1:51 a.m., Barberton Police were called to 341 Michigan Place for a person who had been shot. Arriving officers found the victim lying in the grass. The victim was identified as Justin R. Randle, DOB 5/31/1989 from East 74th Street, Cleveland, Ohio. Randle had been shot and witnesses stated that the suspect had left the scene in a Saturn SUV. Randle was transported to Summa Akron City Hospital where he was operated on. Randle died from his injuries early Sunday morning.

Shortly after the shooting call went out, Barberton Officers spotted a Saturn SUV that matched the suspect vhicle heading out of the City on Wooster Road North. Officers conducted a traffic stop. A loaded gun and two fired shell cashings were recovered from the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle was Akiria Taylor, DOB 2/21/1991 from Griffing Avenue in Cleveland. The passenger of the vehicle was Antonio Deon Parra, DOB 2/20/1990 from Walford Road in Warrensville Heights. Both Taylor and Parra were arrested and booked into the Barberton City Jail.

Parra is charged with Murder and Taylor is charged of Obstructing Justice. Both will have their initial appearance in Barberton Municipal Court on Tuesday, January 17, 2017.

Barberton PD Makes Hit-Skip Arrest

Barberton police making an arrest for the hit-skip death of 27-year old Scott Hollifield.

38-year old Carl Sapper of Barberton is charged with felonies related to the hit-skip, but more charges could be added. Hollified was hit at Van Buren and Lincoln November 30th; he suffered massive head injuries and died a week later.

(Barberton PD) On November 25th, 2016, Scott Hollifield was struck by a vehicle as he was walking on North Van Buren Avenue at Lincoln Avenue. Hollifield later died from the injuries that he sustained from being hit. The vehicle that struck him did not stop after the accident and fled the scene.

The investigation by Barberton Police Department Detectives has resulted in the arrest of Carl E. Sapper, age 38 of E. Cassell Avenue in Barberton for the hit skip accident that resulted in the death of Scott Hollifield.

Carl Sapper has been charged with a Third Degree Felony for failing to stop after an accident (hit-skip). Sapper will be arraigned in the Barberton Municipal Court on 12-15-16.

The investigation has been aided by members of the Summit Metro Crash Team and the Ohio Highway State Patrol. Barberton Police Department Detectives are continuing their investigation.

Barberton Police Seize Drugs In Bust

Barberton police say they've made a drug bust at a home on 5th Street Northeast.

Police say they served a search warrant at about 4:30 on Thursday afternoon, and seized fentanyl, diazepam and other drug instruments and counterfeit cash.

45 year-old David Gumm of the 5th Street Northeast home, and 36 year-old Brian Segedy of Barberton, both face felony drug possession charges.

Both were booked into the Summit County Jail.

(Barberton Police Department, news release) Friday, October 14,2016 - At approximately 4:30 pm yesterday, the Barberton Police Department SWAT Team along with Barberton Narcotics Detectives conducted a search warrant of a resident at 233 5 ST NE in the City of Barberton. Investigators seized Fentanyl, Diazepam tablets, numerous syringes and other drug instruments and counterfeit U.S. Currency.

David P. Gumm, 45, of 233 5 ST NE was charged with Possession of Drugs-Fentanyl, a felony of the 4th degree, and Possession of Criminal Tools, a misdemeanor of the 1st degree.

Brian Segedy, 36, of Barberton was charged with Possession of Drugs-Fentanyl, a felony of the 4th degree, Possession of Drugs-Fentanyl, a felony of the 4th degree, Possession of Drugs-Diazepam, a misdemeanor of the 2nd degree and Possession of Criminal Tools, a misdemeanor of the 1st degree.

Both subjects are being held in the Summit County Jail.

Barberton PD Looking Into Possible Assault

Barberton police are looking for help to solve an apparent assault of a man found lying unconscious on West Hopocan Avenue early Saturday morning.

Police say 36 year-old Robin Couto of 16th Street Northwest in Barberton was found unresponsive at shortly before 3:30 AM Saturday and had no identification or property on him.

He was taken to Summa Akron City Hospital with apparent head injuries, and is in the Intensive Care Unit.

Police think Couto may have been a victim of an assault or robbery, but that won't be confirmed until officers can speak with him.

Anyone who could help determine the victim's whereabouts on Friday or Saturday is being asked to call the Barberton Police Department's Detective Bureau.

(Barberton Police Department, news release) On April 9th at 3:27 a.m., Robin Couto, 36, of 16 St NW in Barberton was found unconsious lying on the street on W. Hopocan Av. He had no identification on him and no property. He was unable to respond and appeared to have suffered injuries to the head. Couto was transported to Summa Akron City Hospital and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, where he remains. It is believed that Couto was the victim of an assault or robbery; however that cannot be confirmed until officers are able to speak with him.

The Barberton Police Department is asking for the public's help in establishing Robin Couto's whereabouts on the evening of April 8th to April 9th. Anyone with information is asked to call the Barberton Police Department Detective Bureau at 330-848-6709.
