East head coach Marques Hayes joined the Sam and Brad Show to talk about their Week 1 matchup in high school football against the Jackson Polar Bears.

Jackson head coach Tim Budd also offered his thoughts on his club as well as the matchup with East.

Jackson head baseball coach Bill Gamble joined the Sam and Brad Show Tuesday to talk about the district final matchup between the Polar Bears and the Massillon Tigers at Thurman Munson Stadium this afternoon.

Head girls' basketball coach of the Jackson Lady Bears Anthony Butch spoke with Sam and Brad Thursday to talk about their Regional Final matchup against Solon. 

The districts are now here in high school basketball and the Copley Indians will be taking on the Jackson Polar Bears in the Division I district semifinals at the Canton Memorial Civic Center.

Mark Dente, the head coach of the Indians boys' basketball team spoke with Sam and Brad Tuesday to talk about the psyche of his team heading into the matchup with the Polar Bears.

Jeff Lindesmith, the head coach of the Canton Central Catholic Crusaders spoke with WAKR's Sam Bourquin about the upcoming Week 8 matchup against Tim Budd's Jackson Polar Bears.

 Friday night's game marks the first contest between these two on the gridiron since 1992.

One of the local athletes who will be competing in the 2016 Rio Olympics is former Jackson Polar Bear Carlin Isles, the fastest man in rugby.

Isles joined Brad Russell to talk about transitioning into rugby, his background in football iand track, and how he learned the sport and what's on his agenda as he heads to Brazil.

He says it's been a learning process as far as rugby, reading the pitchers and learning the tackling techniques.

 "I was so driven and dedicated to make it, and I'm still learning, and you're always learning when it comes to rugby," he says.

He says rugby gives him a platform to inspire people and tell his story.

The team will head to Florida tomorrow to get some preliminary matches in before they head to Rio to compete in the Olympics. 

On National Signing Day, many athletes signed their name on the dotted line to continue their academic and athletic careers.

One such athlete is Jackson High School senior quarterback Jake Palotta, who will play football at Dartmouth. He said he was thankful to spend four years at Jackson, and is ready for the rigors of the Ivy League.

"Dartmouth was the first school that offered me," he said. "My father and I visited all the Ivy League schools, I liked the coaching staff, the campus, I just felt the most comfortable there."

 Palotta, a three sport athlete, not only excels on the football field, but also on the basketball court and the baseball diamond.

 Jake says there's a chance he may play baseball for the Big Green, but he says he'll see what happens once he hits campus.

Jackson and McKinley will tip things off in boys' high school hoops tomorrow, in what is expected to be a very good matchup of two well-coached and disciplined teams.

Coach Rick Hairston of Canton McKinley joined the Sam Bourquin Show Thursday to talk about the game and how his team is doing so far this young season.

Hairston says senior star LePear Toles is expected to play against the Polar Bears despite sustaining a brusied knee in the game against Green at the Canton Memorial Fieldhouse.

"He's going to be fine," Hairston said. "He made a visit to the doctor, and he shoud be good to go."

Speaking about the Polar Bears, Coach Hairston says that they'll face a stiff challenge from Jackson.

"Tim Debevec does a beautiful job of getting his kids to play the way, the style he wants them to play," he said. "They play the way we do, they press, they have lots of talent."

For the Jackson Polar Bears themselves, Coach Debevec (who also joined the Sam Bourquin Show) said that his players will have to bring their best effort against the Bulldogs Friday night at home.

 "We're excited for that, we've been practicing well,and we should be ready."

"They (McKinley) have a lot of depth, lot of skill, we just have to go execute and see what happens."

A Massillon native is dead following a California skiing accident over the long Thanksgiving weekend.

Natalie Altieri was a 2013 graduate of Jackson High School and working an internship with fashion retailer and manufacturer BCBGMAXAZRIA in Los Angeles; she was a second year student of the University of Cincinnati's fashion design. She had also worked a fashion internship in Singapore as part of her studies.

Family members posted on Facebook; her sister Audrey noted "...I cannot imagine my life without her. My family and I are heartbroken. We truly appreciate your prayers and positive thoughts." In Cincinnati, a group of ski enthusiasts the Cincy Snowcats posted "...It is never easy to lose a member of the skiing community, but especially not one so close to home. A terrible reminder of the dangers of the sport that we all have such a passion for; this tragedy will not soon be forgotten. Rest easy, Natalie."
