As the winless Browns head up to Cleveland to face the Buffalo Bills, Browns beat writer Mary Kay Cabot joined Sam Bourquin Tuesday to discuss the Orange and Brown.

She also discussed the team playing a game in London against the Vikings in 2017, saying it's a positive for the team and the league to expand their brand across the pond.

After injuring his shoulder in Sunday's season opening loss against the Philadelphia Eagles, quarterback Robert Griffin III will miss significant playing time.

A Browns news release says Griffin will miss "an extended period of time" and that his shoulder will be "re-evaluated" in 3 to 4 weeks.

After being placed on injured reserve, Griffin will be out for at least eight games.

Josh McCown takes over the Browns starting quarterback job.

(Cleveland Browns, news release) Browns quarterback Robert Griffin III sustained a significant injury during the team's season opener at Philadelphia on Sunday and has been placed on injured reserve.*

He is expected to miss an extended period of time during the 2016 season after medical tests on Sunday night and Monday morning revealed a fractured coracoid bone in his left shoulder. Although surgery is not required at this time, Griffin's left shoulder will be re-evaluated in 3-4 weeks.

"It's very unfortunate, Robert came in and has worked extremely hard to learn our offense and earn the respect of his teammates," Browns coach Hue Jackson said. "This is a tough loss because everyone has seen how invested he has been in this team and his dedication to the work needed to improve his craft. We all know these are the realities of the NFL, injuries occur and you have to find ways to overcome them so they don't impede your progress. Robert will do everything in his power to rehab and get healthy but Josh McCown is on this roster for a reason and we have great confidence in him. He is more than capable. His veteran presence has been an asset to our team throughout our process of preparing for the season. We look forward to him assuming the role of the starter and leading our offensive unit."

Griffin signed with the Browns as a free agent in March. He completed 12 of 26 passes for 190 yards and added 37 rushing yards against the Eagles.

McCown started eight games for the Browns last season. He completed 186 of 292 passes for 2,109 yards with 12 touchdowns, four interceptions and a 93.3 rating in 2015.

* Under the new injured reserve rules for the 2016 season, each team can designate one player to return. Designation does not need to be made until that player is able to return to practice. A player placed on injured reserve is eligible to return to practice in six weeks and must miss a minimum of eight games.

After a two-touchdown performance in the Brown and Orange Scrimmage at Ohio Stadium in Columbus Saturday, the Browns have officially named Robert Griffin III the team's starting quarterback. Griffin signed with the team this offseason after four years with the Washington Redskins.

Robert Griffin III has been named the Browns starting quarterback, Hue Jackson announced Monday.

Griffin III, who signed with the Browns in March after four seasons with the Washington Redskins, emerged from a four-man competition that included veteran Josh McCown, Austin Davis and rookie Cody Kessler. He’ll receive his first startFriday in Cleveland’s preseason opener at Green Bay.

Jackson believes Griffin’s best football is ahead of him.

"It's time. Robert has earned the right to be named the starting quarterback of the Cleveland Browns," Jackson said. "Since he was signed back in March, Robert has made it clear through his actions that he is willing to do everything that has been asked of him to earn this role. Throughout this process he has gained the respect from his teammates, the coaching staff and the entire organization that is necessary for him to lead our offense and really the entire team. Pep (Hamilton) has done an outstanding job with that room to get us to this point so we can make this decision at what I feel is the optimal time which enables us to best prepare for the regular season. It's now on Robert to show the organization and our fans that this is the right decision. Throughout the offseason program and training camp, Robert has shown improvement every day and we expect him to continue to ascend as he becomes more and more acclimated to the offensive system we will employ this season. I've been crystal clear on what we expect from Robert. He fully understands the responsibility and I feel he is ready to handle this role."

Since training camp opened last week, Griffin has primarily worked with the first-team offense. At Friday’s live, 11-on-11 scrimmage in Berea, he connected with rookie wide receiver Corey Coleman on multiple long passes, including one for a touchdown, and tossed a short touchdown pass to tight end Connor Hamlett. On Saturday at the Orange and Brown Scrimmage in Columbus, Griffin consistently moved the offense down the field and threw two touchdown passes.

Griffin (6-foot-2, 218 pounds) is entering his fifth NFL season out of Baylor. Originally selected by Washington with the second overall pick in 2012, Griffin has appeared in 37 games with 35 starts. He has completed 679 of 1,063 passes (63.9 percent) for 8,097 yards with 40 touchdowns, 23 interceptions and a 90.6 rating and added 1,480 career rushing yards with eight scores.

Griffin set NFL rookie records for passer rating (102.4), interception percentage (1.27) and rushing yards by a quarterback (815) en route to being named 2012 Associated Press Offensive Rookie of the Year and a Pro Bowl selection. He led the Redskins to a 10-6 record and their first division title in 13 years.

Starting 13 games in 2013, Griffin recorded a career-high 3,203 passing yards and became the fifth quarterback in NFL history to record 3,000 passing yards in each of his first two seasons. He started seven games in 2014 and registered 1,694 passing yards. Last season, he was inactive 15 games and dressed but did not play in another.

Steve King of Browns Daily Dose joined the Average Sports Show to break down the Browns off season and what to expect this up coming season. King talked about what the Browns coaching staff needs to do to build up the confidence of Browns quarterback Robert Griffin the 3rd.   King believes that Griffin can a bridge at the quarterback position saying that he has faith in Browns head coach Hue Jackson to build the former rookie of the year back up. King believes the Browns coaching staff is different in years past, "I was thrilled to death when they signed him, I was thrilled to death when they brought in Al Saunders and Pep Hamilton these guys know quarterbacks they know offence." King said.    

The Browns have another quarterback on the roster, and Robert Griffin III is his name. After much talk and rumor the last few days, the former Baylor star is in the fold.

Andrea Hangst from the Orange and Brown Report and Scout.com spoke with Brad Russell about the move to bring in the veteran QB.

When asked about how RGIII and Hue Jackson are going to coexist, Andrea was optimistic about the process, saying the two men will work well together because they believe in each other.

"One of the few things he's needed is a coach that truly believes in him, he didn't really get that with Shanahan in Washington, and he never felt that with Jay Gruden, so it's going to be a better environment when he's playing for a guy who wanted him and wanting to resurrect his career," Hangst explained.

After much speculation and chatter, Robert Griffin III is now a Cleveland Brown.

The former Heisman Trophy winning quarterback out of Baylor is now in the 216 after four years in Washington, and is looking for a career revival in Cleveland.

Steve Doerschuk from the Canton Repository spoke with Sam Bourquin on Thursday just shortly after the news broke out.

Steve says he's confident that new Browns coach Hue Jackson can get Griffin to be a solid quarterback.

"If RGIII is to be restored, Hue Jackson is the guy who can do it," Doerschuk said.

Griffin made the Pro Bowl in his rookie year of 2012 and led Washington to a playoff appearance that year before various injuries took their toll.

It remains to be seen if the Browns will spend their #2 overall pick on a quarterback, but with many holes to fill, it's unclear what direction the Browns will go.

He started 40 games at Baylor and earned the Heisman Trophy following the 2011 season. He completed 800 of 1,192 career passes (67.1 percent) for 10,366 yards with 78 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. He added 2,254 rushing yards with 33 touchdowns. In 2011, Griffin led Baylor (10-3) to its first 10-win season since 1980, as well as the program's first bowl victory in 19 years. Griffin graduated from Copperas Cove (Texas) High School and set numerous high school and college track and field records. He was born in Japan, where his parents were stationed for the military.
