A former Canton McKinley H.S. swim coach now says he did have a sexual relationship with a student, and more than once, back when he was coaching her.

Samuel Seiple, 57, says that between May, 2014 and November, 2015, he sexually assaulted the girl who was 16-years-old at the time.

The 8-month-long investigation by the Stark County Sheriff's Office revealed evidence of potentially other victims, but Seiple has only been charged in this case. In court on Monday, Seiple pleaded guilty to the sexual assault of a minor. He was sentenced 180 days in jail, but 178 days of the sentence were suspended. The Canton Repository is reporting the judge's thought was that the two days in jail would help Seiple "understand what it's like to be a criminal."

Seiple began working at Canton McKinley in 1994. The Canton City School district says he submitted his resignation on August 11, 2017.

Adam D. Shaffer, 35, of Akron, has been sentenced to life in prison for raping a 6-year-old Akron boy last September.

Back on September 3, 2016, the victim was visiting his grandmother who lives at the Saferstein Towers II apartment complex in Akron. During that visit, Shaffer befriended the boy and then took him to a park behind the apartments. That is where prosecutors say the assault happened.

In April of this year, Shaffer plead guilty to first-degree-felony rape charges. He was sentenced Wednesday by Summit County Common Pleas Court Judge Alison McCarty.

Shaffer is not eligible for parole until after 15 years of his sentence. He will also have to register as a Tier 3 sex offender, and is required to re-register every 90 days with the court for the rest of his life.

-------

(Massillon Police Department, news release) On the afternoon of Wednesday, September 28, 2016, Massillon Police Detectives identified the suspect, 46 year old Dennis L Menefee Jr. of Port Washington, Ohio. The suspect was arrested by Fairfield County Sheriff's Office on warrants issued from the Massillon Prosecutor's Office for 1st Degree Felony charges of Rape, Kidnapping and 1st Degree Misdemeanor charges of Assault, Aggravated Menacing.

The apprehension stems from a (September) 26, 2016 incident in our city where a nine year child was walking home from the library and was abducted near St Paul's Church. The child was lured to the vehicle by the suspect telling her that he was a police officer and she was reported missing. The child was forced into the vehicle and transported a short distance to a parking lot. The child was sexually assaulted, beaten and threatened prior to being released from the pick-up truck. The child walked home and reported the incident to her family and the police were immediately notified.

Investigators identified a vehicle from a local business' surveillance video based upon the description received from the victim. The dissemination of the photo prompted a call to the police department after someone with knowledge of the suspect recognized the vehicle. The suspect's identity and his vehicle were confirmed by the victim.

A search warrant was issued by the Stark County Prosecutor's Office for the suspect's 2005 Ford F150 pick up truck. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is providing assistance in executing the search warrant upon the vehicle. The suspect will be booked into the Stark County Jail upon release from Fairfield County.
