Stark County Sheriff's Deputies, along with Canton Police are looking for a missing Canton teen.

There isn't much information right now, and we're not sure where 16-year-old Christa Hicks was last seen, but a missing child poster was issued this morning.

She is said to frequent the Alliance area.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Canton Police Department. 

The Stark County Sheriff's Office says Jacob Stockdale, 26, has turned himself in after the Stark County Grand Jury issued a secret indictment earlier this week, charging him with the murder of his 21-year-old brother James and his 54-year-old mother Kathryn.

According to the report, Stockdale shot himself after killing his brother and mother in their home in Bethlehem Township back in June of 2017. 

Stockdale had been recovering from his self-inflicted wounds, and was charged this week.

Sheriff George Maier, in a statement, said, "It is our hope that this arrest offers some closure to the Stockdale family and the entire community."

Stark County Sheriff's investigators, along with Canton's Metro Crash Team are investigating a fatal crash involving a bicycle Monday morning in Plain Township.

According to the press release (see below), Mark Esposito of North Canton was riding his bike along Wener Church Road around 8:40 Monday morning, and was hit by a Honda Civic. Esposito was taken to Mercy Medical Center where he later died.

No charges have been filed yet.

(STARK SHERIFF) (Plain Township, Ohio) – The Stark County Sheriff’s Office along with the Canton Metro Crash Team is investigating a fatal crash involving a bicyclist.

At approximately 8:39 a.m. Deputies responded to Werner Church Road NE just west of Bentler Avenue NE in Plain Township in response to a crash involving a car and a bicycle.

57-year-old Mark A. Esposito of North Canton was riding a bicycle westbound on Werner Church Road when he was struck by a 1999 Honda Civic, also traveling westbound on Werner Church Road. Esposito was transported to Mercy Medical Center where he succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Back on September 1st, 2017, Summit County Jail inmate Anthony L. Jones was involved in an altercation with two Sheriff's deputies at the jail. The following day, Jones died in the jail's hospital. 

Shortly after Jones' death, the Summit County Sheriff Steve Barry requested an investigation into the incident, and requested that Stark County investigators conduct the investigation, to avoid any conflict of interest. 

On Monday, the Summit County Sheriff's Office released the following statement regarding that investigation: 

In September of 2017, Summit County Sheriff Steve Barry requested the Stark County Sheriff’s
Office to investigate the death of Mr. Anthony L. Jones due to Mr. Jones’ death occurring while
Mr. Jones was incarcerated at the Summit County Jail. Summit County Medical Examiner, Dr.
Lisa Kohler, performed an autopsy on the deceased and the results of the autopsy were signed
and released on February 22, 2018. According to this documentation the cause of death was
Hypoxic/ischemic encephalopathy due to cardiac arrest of uncertain etiology. The manner of
death is listed as UNDETERMINED: Cardiac arrest during active restraint while in custody.
It should be noted how the autopsy does also reflect the following Accessory diagnosis: Clinical
history of schizophrenia, pulmonary emphysema, and Focal moderate atherosclerotic
cardiovascular disease. Further, Mr. Jones had been admitted to Akron General Hospital in 2016
for acute encephalopathy, respiratory failure, rhabdomyolysis, kidney failure, substance abuse
disorder, and hypokalemia. The investigation was completed by the Stark County Sheriff’s
Office and then turned over to the Stark County Prosecutor’s Office for review. We have now
received correspondence from the Stark County Prosecuting Attorney, Mr. John D. Ferrero, that,
his office has reviewed the investigation into the death of Mr. Anthony Jones. Prosecutor Ferrero
explains how documents from the Stark County Sheriff’s Office investigation, were all reviewed,
as well as the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office documents, including the Medical
Examiner’s Report of Autopsy. The Prosecutor ends his communication with, “Based upon our
review of the case, probable cause does not exist for charging criminal liability with respect to
Mr. Jones’ death. Accordingly, we do not believe this matter merits presentation to the Summit
County Grand Jury.” From everything submitted, it has been concluded Mr. Jones suffered
cardiac arrest due to unknown medical origin during this tragic and unfortunate incident.
The Summit County Sheriff’s Office wishes to thank the Stark County Sheriff’s Office and the
Stark County Prosecutor’s Office for their professional assistance and thorough investigation and
offers its true condolences to Mr. Jones’ family.

Update: The Summit County Sheriff's Office is reporting that that the Jackson Memorial Middle School student who brought a rifle into the school and shot himself has died. 

According to the report, the 13-year-old student hid the gun underneath his clothing and brought it onto the school bus. When he arrived at the Jackson Memorial, he went into a bathroom and then shot himself. He was taken to Akron Children's Hospital where he died early Wednesday morning, just after 12:30 a.m. 

The Medical Examiner has released the student's identity, but our 1590 WAKR Newsroom has decided not to mention his name. 

Jackson Township Police Chief Mark Brink, during a press conference on Wednesday afternoon, explained that the student get the rifle from his mother's house, but that they were still working on who it was registered to. Chief Brink added that the student was carrying a backpack that had bottle rockets, batteries, and "some ammo," but he did not specify how much. 

Chief Brink mentioned that the investigation is ongoing and that it would take a significant amount of time, saying that they are looking for a motive and the student's full plan for that day on campus.

Update: All Jackson Local Schools will remain closed for the remainder of the day Tuesday.

Students are being sent home and all extracurricular activities for Tuesday have been canceled. 

There is still no word on the condition of the student that was shot.

Jackson Local Schools are in lockdown protocol after a reported shooting on at Jackson Memorial Middle School. 

Reports are that a 7th grade student, who brought a gun to the middle school campus, suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The student is being treated at an area hospital. 

Jackson Schools Superintendent Christopher DiLoreto sent an automated message to students and parents in the district notifying them of the shooting at the school and the lockdown, and posted the following to the district website: 

There has been no update on the status of the student who was shot.

A former Canton McKinley H.S. swim coach now says he did have a sexual relationship with a student, and more than once, back when he was coaching her. 

Samuel Seiple, 57, says that between May, 2014 and November, 2015, he sexually assaulted the girl who was 16-years-old at the time. 

The 8-month-long investigation by the Stark County Sheriff's Office revealed evidence of potentially other victims, but Seiple has only been charged in this case. In court on Monday, Seiple pleaded guilty to the sexual assault of a minor. He was sentenced 180 days in jail, but 178 days of the sentence were suspended. The Canton Repository is reporting the judge's thought was that the two days in jail would help Seiple "understand what it's like to be a criminal." 

Seiple began working at Canton McKinley in 1994. The Canton City School district says he submitted his resignation on August 11, 2017.
