Wadsworth High Student Arrested For Threat

A Wadsworth High School student is under arrest after posting threats against the school on a personal Facebook page.

Wadsworth City School Superintendent Andy Hill says the student, whose name and age has not been released, did not single out any specific other student or faculty member, but mentioned the school itself in the threat.

Once the threat was made public and made known to the Wadsworth Police and school district Sunday, the student was arrested shortly after. Hill says the school district then posted to their own Facebook page and made calls to students and families regarding the incident. "We don't have any reason to believe there was anything more to this than the one student who is now in custody," Hill said Monday.

There is no word on the charges that student is facing. No other arrests were made in the case. Classes continued as normal Monday morning at Wadsworth High School and throughout the rest of the district.

Wadsworth School Lockdown Due To Errant Call

A mixup with a caller from another city caused the lockdown at Wadsworth High School.

Wadsworth police say a concerned caller from Wellsville, Ohio...in Columbiana County...called Wadsworth police Friday morning, saying her phone alerted her to an intruder inside Wadsworth High School.

There was no intruder and no threat, and the Wadsworth school lockdown ended later in the morning.

There was a mock intruder drill in the caller's hometown of Wellsville.

Wadsworth police won't file any charges against the caller.

--------

(Wadsworth Police Department, news release) The Wadsworth Police Department received a call at 9:39 AM this morning from a woman who had received a message on her phone advising there was an intruder in the Wadsworth High School. The Wadsworth Police and Wadsworth Schools reacted immediately and the high school, the community center and all other Wadsworth schools were placed in a lockdown as a precautionary measure.

Schools officials and police officers searched all of the buildings and determined there was no intruder and no threat to the safety of any students, faculty or staff.

As the Wadsworth Police began to investigate this matter it was determined the original call originated from an area near the Wellsville High School in Wellsville, Ohio. Wadsworth police also discovered that around the time the call was received in Wadsworth the Wellsville High School was doing a mock Intruder drill. At this time it appears the call received by the Wadsworth Police was not intentional and there was never any threat at any of the Wadsworth Schools.

Wadsworth, Glenoak High Schools Locked Down

Update: As of 11:30 a.m. Friday the lockdown at Glenoak High School had been lifted. There is no official word on any arrests or any other information regarding the nature or seriousness of the threats written on the walls of the bathrooms. The Sheriff's Office has determined, however, that students and staff are safe to resume normal operations.

--

Friday morning Wadsworth Police were alerted by someone who claimed to be a student at Wadsworth High School that there was an intruder on the school's campus. The school was placed on lockdown for more than an hour as the Wadsworth Police responded and investigated.

It wasn't long before police determined that the threat was not credible and there was no intruder on campus. As a follow up, all of the buildings on campus were checked over and the lockdown was lifted just after 10:30 a.m.

In an unrelated incident, Glenoak High School was also placed on lockdown Friday morning in response to threats that were written on the walls of a "couple" of bathrooms on campus.

Plain Local Schools Treasurer Kathy Jordan tells WAKR.net that the Stark County Sheriff's Office was called immediately to investigate the nature of those threats, though she said she could not go into any further details while the investigation was ongoing.

"No child is in danger, no one's been hurt, but we did go into lockdown," Jordan said, as a precaution. She went on to say that people often hear the term "lockdown" and fear the worst, but that is a standard procedure as the safety of all of their students is the number one priority.

As of 11 a.m. Friday, the Stark County Sheriff's Office was still investigating the written threats, but again, there was no real concern regarding the safety of the students at Glenoak High School.
