Officer-Involved Shooting In Akron Early Tuesday

Update: Akron Police have identified the suspect as 19-year-old Elijah Cade of Akron. He is listed in critical condition at Akron General Hospital.

Akron Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting early Tuesday morning at Manchester Road and Kenmore Boulevard. 

Just about 12:23 a.m., police officers tried to stop a car along Manchester Road near Russell Avenue. The driver didn't stop, leading police on a short chase before crashing his car just thirty seconds later, according to the report.

When officers approached the vechile, the suspect made what police described as "furtive movements," leading to officers open fire on the suspect who was later transported to a local hospital with unknown injuries.

Police have not released an identification on the man nor the officers involved, but reports are the suspect is a 19-year-old male. 

The investigation is ongoing.

Shooting, Crash Closes 71 In Medina County

Not many details are available just yet, but traffic was tied up and I-71 South closed at State Route 3 in Medina County for roughly four hours early Tuesday morning. 

According to multiple police reports, a chase began in Strongsville after a white passenger van didn't pull over along Pearl Road when instructed to around 2:30 a.m. A chase lead police to I-71 where a Strongsville Police Officer reportedly opened fire, hitting the suspect who was driving, and then causing the subsequent crash at 71-South and SR 3 near I-271. 

Multiple police units from surrounding cities and counties replied, including Medina City Police, Medina County Sheriff's Office, and Strongsville Police. Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation has since taken over the investigation. 

BCI has reported that in addition to the suspect, who was driving the van and was killed at the scene, a woman and three children were also in the van. It is not known the relation between the suspect and the others, nor have their ages been released.

ME: Unarmed Alameri Shot 5 Times

The 26 year old Case Western Reserve University student shot and killed in what is described as a struggle with a Hudson police officer was hit at least five times by bullets.

The Summit County Medical Examiner says autopsy results do not include toxicology tests at this time, but Saif Mubarak Alameri of the United Arab Emirates was shot once in the head, once in the face and three times in the left leg during the incident with police Officer Ryan Doran, a 12-year veteran of the Hudson Police Department. Dashcam video from that day has audio of six shots fired.

Alameri had flipped his vehicle on the nearby Ohio Turnpike then fled the scene on foot; witnesses say he had been "running wildly" when he went into a wooded area along Hudson-Aurora Rd. when Doran found him. In the dashcam video, a dog can also be heard inside the vehicle reacting to the sound of shots fired. 

Alameri was not armed, investigators from Ohio's Bureau of Criminal Investigation report. Doran remains on paid leave.

(Summit County Medical Examiner) This is a update concerning the death of Saif Mubarak Alameri who was shot during a struggle with a Hudson Police Officer. The autopsy examination revealed a total of 5 definite gunshot wounds. One to the head, one to the face and three to the left leg. Toxicology testing is not completed at this time. There is no other information to release at this time

Medical Examiner ID's Man Shot By Hudson Police

The Summit County Medical Examiner has released the name of the man shot by a Hudson Police Officer Sunday afternoon after fleeing the scene of a car accident on the Turnpike. 

Saif Nasser Mubarak Alameri, 26, is said to have died as a result "homicide," according to the M.E. report. 

According to the police report, Mubarak Alameri side-swiped a vehicle along the Turnpike and flipped his own car. He then allegedly fled the scene on foot to a residential area near Hudson Aurora Road. An officer in pursuit located Mubarak Alameri near a home and a struggle ensued. The responding officer shot him, killing him on the scene. The Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating whether or not Mubarak Alameri had a gun. 

Mubarak Alameri, a citizen of the United Arab Emerites, was a student at Case Western Reserve University.

The individual that was shot in the 3200 block of Hudson Aurora Road in Hudson on Sunday afternoon, following a struggle with a Hudson Police Officer has been positively identified as Saif Nasser Mubarak Alameri, a 26 year-old male from Cleveland, Ohio.

The autopsy has been completed and the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head.  The manner of death is homicide.

The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office will not be releasing any more information at this time.  For any other information regarding this case contact the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI).
