Man Attempting to Abduct Children Arrested

Jay Miller, 50, was arrested Wednesday, charged with the attempted abduction of four girls at Weis Park in Canton.

According to the report from Canton Police, at about 5:41 p.m. Wednesday, Miller is alleged to have approached the group of children between the ages of 6 and 11-years-old and threatened to duct tape their mouths, hit them over the heads with a hammer, and drag them to his car.

Miller reportedly then drove off, but a witness got a picture of his license plate. He was arrested at a home on 32nd Street shortly after the incident late yesterday afternoon.

Miller's first court appearance is scheduled for Friday morning at 9 a.m.

APD: Young Girl Abducted, Dropped Off Unharmed

Akron Police are looking for a suspect who abducted an 11-year-old girl in the city's East Neighborhood Tuesday afternoon and then let her go unharmed.

The victim's mother says the girl was walking home from David Hill Elementary School on East Archwood Avenue about 2:35 p.m. According to reports, the suspect grabbed the girl from behind, covering her mouth, and threw her in the passenger side of his van.

The victim says the man who took her was yelling at her for screaming so loudly and then he dropped her off not long after - along South Arlington near East Wilbeth Road.

The suspect is described as a white male in his 30's, wearing a navy blue shirt and black shorts. He's said to have been driving a black cargo van with no windows on the sides and possibly tinted windows on the front and back. Anyone with info is asked to call Akron Police.

Child Abduction, Rape Suspect Bond - $1 Million

Bond for the man charged with the abduction and rape of a 9 year-old Massillon girl has been set at $1 million.

The Massillon Independent reports that 46 year-old Dennis Menefee, in a video appearance in court in Fairfield County, denied the charges and said - quote - "I wasn't even in Massillon".

Massillon police drove Menefee back to Stark County after the extradition hearing...he had two black eyes authorities say were self-inflicted in a jail holding cell.

Police: Reported Abduction "Never Occurred"

Jackson Township Police say an investigation revealed that an abduction and assault that was reported at Stark State College in July never happened.

On July 14, police say a woman reported that she was taken from a parking lot and driven to the Akron area where she had been assaulted. Following an investigation, authorities determined that the incident never occurred.

The Stark County Prosecutor's Office is expected to review the case for possible criminal charges for filing a false police report.
