Stark County Sheriff's investigators, along with Canton's Metro Crash Team are investigating a fatal crash involving a bicycle Monday morning in Plain Township.

According to the press release (see below), Mark Esposito of North Canton was riding his bike along Wener Church Road around 8:40 Monday morning, and was hit by a Honda Civic. Esposito was taken to Mercy Medical Center where he later died.

No charges have been filed yet.

(STARK SHERIFF) (Plain Township, Ohio) – The Stark County Sheriff’s Office along with the Canton Metro Crash Team is investigating a fatal crash involving a bicyclist.

At approximately 8:39 a.m. Deputies responded to Werner Church Road NE just west of Bentler Avenue NE in Plain Township in response to a crash involving a car and a bicycle.

57-year-old Mark A. Esposito of North Canton was riding a bicycle westbound on Werner Church Road when he was struck by a 1999 Honda Civic, also traveling westbound on Werner Church Road. Esposito was transported to Mercy Medical Center where he succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Investigators say that drugs and alcohol played a factor in a deadly two-car crash in Plain Township early Wednesday morning. 

According to the report from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Michael D. Elsass, 26, of North Canton, drove through a red light at a high rate of speed around 1:15 a.m. Wednesday. He struck a Chrysler Town and Country, driven by Lawrence E. Dobbins. After the collision, Elsass's Chevy Malibu ran off the side of Cleveland Avenue and into a a group of trees along the roadway. 

When Highway Patrol and EMS arrived on the scene, Elsass was pronounced dead on the scene. Neith Dobbins nor his passenger, Lynda Dobbins, were injured in the accident. 

Highway Patrol investigators from the Canton Post believe that drugs and alcohol played a factor in the deadly crash. The investigation is ongoing. 

Stark County Sheriff George T. Maier held a press conference regarding the double-homicide Monday in North Canton. 

Rogell John II and his wife, Roberta, were found dead inside their home on Mount Pleasant Street NW Monday afternoon around 4:20. Their son found them and call 911. Deputies responded and they were both dead on the scene. 

Since that time, detectives with the Stark County Sheriff's Office determined that their suspect was 45-year-old George C. Brinkman of Brunswick. Sheriff Maier said, in his press conference, that Brinkman has been watching the Johns' home while they were away on vacation. Whether he was staying in the home or just checking in, and for how long, have not been determined yet, according to the Sheriff. 

On Tuesday, a warrant was issued for two counts of murder for Brinkman. 

Prior to the warrants being issued, Brinkman was the subject of a police standoff outside a Brunswick home on Valley Forge Drive. It started around 9 Monday night and lasted through the early morning hours Tuesday. It ended, without incident, and with Brinkman in handcuffs. 

During the press conference Tuesday, Sheriff Maier said that his office received a call from North Royalton Police on Sunday afternoon regarding Brinkman. At that point, North Royalton PD had established Brinkman as a person of interest in connection to the triple-homicide on Ridge Road near Wallings Road over the weekend. Suzanne Taylor and her daughters, 21-year-old Taylor Pifer and 18-year-old Kylie Pifer, were found dead inside that home on Ridge Rd. Saturday, but weren't found until the next day. Sheriff Maier says that North Royalton PD called his office because it was reported to them that Brinkman had sometimes stayed at a home in Stark County.

While charges have been filed out of Stark County, it appears no charges have been filed in North Royalton as of Tuesday afternoon, though Brinkman is being held in North Royalton Jail.

North Canton police say they arrested an armed man who was allegedly planning to kill people at a local bar Thursday night.

According to police, authorities were notified that a man had a weapon and planned to kill people at a bar while sitting in a vehicle in a Wilbur Drive NE parking lot around 11:25 p.m.

Officers say they found Michael P. Bianchi, 29, of Uniontown, with several loaded firearms and knives, wearing a bulletproof vest and black camouflage makeup on his face. He was taken into custody without incident and booked at the Stark County Jail.

Bianchi has been charged with carrying a concealed weapons and improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle.

A 29-year-old woman was killed in an early morning crash in Lake Township.

Troopers with the Canton Post of the State Highway Patrol report that Sarah Ullom, 29, of North Canton, drove off the left side of Cleveland Avenue in Lake Township shortly before 2 a.m. The vehicle hit a wooden utility pole and then struck a parked car.

Ullom was taken from the scene by Greentown Fire to Mercy Medical Center where she later died of her injuries.

Troopers do not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash and said Ullom was wearing her seat belt.
