:19 - The rumors have been circulating for a year or so, and as of 6 AM Monday morning, it became official: Amazon will open a fulfillment center at the site of the old Rolling Acres Mall. Guest-host Tony Mazur talked about this story as it broke, reading the press release about how this will create 2,500 jobs and wages beginning at $15 an hour.

6:09 - In less serious news, the panel discussed a story about a 35-year-old women in the UK who plans to marry…..a chandelier.

It's official: Amazon is coming to Akron, and bringing with it roughly 1,500 new jobs; most of which that start at $15 per hour. 

In a statment issued early this morning, Amazon announced what's been speculated for a long time now, that the former Rolling Acres Mall property on the southwest edge of town, will be the new Amazon fulfillment center site.

The full statement from Mayor Dan Horrigan: 

“In Akron we have a proud history of innovation, resiliency, and re-inventing ourselves to meet the changing demands of a dynamic economy,” Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan said. “We are thrilled to welcome Amazon to Akron, to transform this once blighted property into a thriving logistics and distribution hub. This is the single largest job-creating project we have undertaken in a generation. We look forward to continuing to partner with Amazon to empower the Akron community with employment, education and skills training opportunities.”

Reaction from around Summit County, as well, as County Executive Ilene Shapiro and County Fiscal Officer Kristen Scalise both say they're excited to welcome Amazon to the county, calling it the result of collaboration among local, regional, and state development partners. 

Amazon reenforcing its commitment to Ohio with another announcement that they'll open a second distribution warehouse near Toledo. The two new facilities will be the 7th and 8th Amazon hubs in Ohio.

The Akron facility, meanwhile, should be up and running by Christmas 2020.

:17 - Before prom, a number of students in Wisconsin took a photo where it looked like they gave the camera a Nazi salute. Ray, Jeanne, Steffany, and Tony shared their thoughts on this matter and how parents should approach a situation if one were to come in contact with an individual with radical beliefs.

15:30 - Moving onto some high school football here. Justin Todd is the head football coach at Wadsworth, and his undefeated Grizzlies are set to take on Massillon.

21:47 - Another terrific football program is at Archbishop Hoban. Tim Tyrrell’s Knights keep moving right along, and they will play Shaq Washington's Maple Heights Mustangs this Friday.

30:52 - The fires in California rage on, and the devastation is leaving countless people without homes or even towns. Jim McIntyre from the American Red Cross

38:08 - Russ Brode is a lieutenant in the Akron Fire Department, and he talked to Ray and the listeners about the differences between putting out wildfires and regular house and office fires.

45:23 - Finally, Dan Horrigan, the mayor of Akron, called into discuss the continued development in downtown, as well as the uprising of the area’s booming neighborhoods and what will go into the old Rolling Acres land.

Three teenagers were gunned down in the 400 block of Noah Avenue over the weekend. Due to the rash of gun violence in the city of late, the mayor and chief of police addressed the bloodshed in the area on Monday afternoon.

Dan Horrigan, the mayor of Akron, called into the Ray Horner Morning Show to recap what was said during his Monday press conference, as well as a slew of other topics, such as the end of First Night Akron.

Horrigan also touched on the future of the now-vacant site at Rolling Acres, as well as the events surrounding the All-American Soap Box Derby.
