An Akron man is under arrest, facing multiple felony charges, after Akron Police say he held his girlfriend against her will and threatened her life. 

According to the APD report, police were called to the home at 26 West Dalton Avenue around 9 a.m. Tuesday. As officers pulled up to the home, they noticed 56-year-old Leon J. Newsome on the porch and a woman running from the home. That's when Newsome reportedly ran back into the home and locked the door. 

The female, who is believed to be Newsome's girlfriend, told Police that Newsome had held her against her will all night, that he had a gun and that he held the gun to her head and pulled the trigger... For some reason, Police say, the gun did not fire, sparing the woman's life. 

S.W.A.T. was called to the home and after a short time Newsome surrendured without further incident. He's being held in Summit County Jail on charges of felonious assault, aggravated menacing, kidnapping, unlawful restraint, assault, having weapons while under disability, and menacing.

Akron Police were called to a home in the 1300 block of Waterloo Road Friday night around 11:30 about a man with a gun, inside the home, acting irradically, possibly on drugs, and threatening to shoot someone. 

The female caller, who hasn't been identified, said that Michael Higgins (pictured) was acting crazy and tearing up the home. She could be heard in a recording sent the the WAKR Newsroom by Akron Police yelling at Higgins, telling him to get out of the house. 

When police arrived, Higgins opened fire, to which Akron Police officers returned shots. After the shootout, Higgins reportedly barricaded himself inside the home. Akron SWAT was called, but it is unclear if they were needed, as Higgins gave himself up peacefully shortly after he locked himself inside. 

Higgins was arrested and taken to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital with a minor injury; he reportedly was grazed with a bullet from an Akron Police officer's gun. He's charged with felonious assault on a police officer and more charges are expected. Higgins was booked in Summit County Jail. 

The officers involved in the shootout have been placed on adinistrative leave, per APD protocol. The incident remains under investigaiton. 

A 32-year-old man is dead after authorities say he barricaded himself inside a Coventry Township home Sunday night.

Summit County Sheriff's Inspector Bill Holland said Ryan Perkins of New Franklin was found with what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head after a four-hour standoff.

"Our dispatch center received a call from a woman who said her 32-year-old husband was walking around outside in the yard of a Coventry Township residence with a rifle in his mouth," said Holland.

According to deputies, the man was reportedly making threats to harm himself and law enforcement inside the East State Street house.

Deputies were able to get in the home through a bedroom window to safely bring the mother and a child outside. Authorities tried to communicate with Perkins, but were unsuccessful and later found him on a couch with what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation.
