Woman Overdosed with Baby in the Back Seat

On Wednesday afternoon, Akron Police Officers responded to a call of a woman overdosing at a gas station on Mogadore Road about noon, according to the report. When they arrived, they found the woman passed out in the front passenger seat of a Buick and an 11 month old baby boy in the back seat.

Paramedics responded to the scene, reviving the woman with narcan, and then transporting her to Akron City.

While police were still there, the child's father, 29-year-old Andrew C. Carter of Mogadore, was arrested when he returned to the car. He's been booked into the Summit County Jail on felony child endangering charges. The baby, meanwhile, is in the custody of Child Services.

The woman later told police they'd bought Fentanyl along Manchester Road.

(APD) Around noon yesterday, officers responded to an overdose at a gas station in the 2500 block of Mogadore Road.  When officers arrived, they observed an unresponsive female in the front seat of a 1998 Buick Century.  Officers then observed the female’s 11 month old son in the back seat of the car.  While paramedics were administering Narcan to the female, the male driver came over to the car.

Paramedics revived the female and transported her to Akron City Hospital for further treatment.  The adult male, Andrew C. Carter, 29, of Herbert Street in Mogadore, was charged with child endangering and booked into the Summit County Jail.  The child was placed into the custody of the Summit County Child Services.

The female stated they bought Fentanyl on Manchester Road.

Akron Dad Leaves Toddler in Car at Jack Casino

An Akron man is charged with Child Endangering after reportedly leaving his toddler locked in the car while he was inside the Jack Casino in Cleveland. 

Cleveland Police responded to a call of the young boy locked in the car Saturday night, around 9:30. When they arrived, 28-year-old John Pierre McCallister was reportedly walking through the garage toward the car. He met the police there and reportedly said, "Oh, my bad. I was just coming back to check on him." The report claims McCallister told police his girlfriend had driven them to the casino and that she was inside. He later admitted that she was actually at their Akron home. 

Police contacted the girlfriend, the boy's mother, and she told them that she was unaware McCallister was in Cleveland and that she would come pick up the boy. 

McCallister appeared in Cleveland Municipal Court Monday and is due back in court next week.

Falls Man Sentenced For Child Abuse

William Jobe, 29, was sentenced to five years in prison today Summit County Common Pleas Court, after pleading guilty back in August to a second degree felony charge of Endangering Children.

In August of 2015, Jobe violently shook his girlfriend's 8-month-old child, temporarily paralyzing the baby. He was the only one home at the time of the incident, called 9-1-1 and admitted to shaking the child during an interview with police.

The baby suffered severe brain injuries, and according to the prosecutor's office has a lengthy recovery.

AKRON, Ohio (Wednesday, September 07, 2016) – Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh announced today that Summit County Common Pleas Court Judge Paul Gallagher sentenced William Jobe, 29, of Second Street in Cuyahoga Falls, to five years in prison for violently shaking his girlfriend’s baby.

On August 4, 2016, Jobe pled guilty to the following charge:

  • Endangering Children – a felony of the 2nd degree

According to Cuyahoga Falls police, emergency crews responded to the Second Street home on August 19, 2015 after a call to 9-1-1 to report an 8-month-old who was having difficulty breathing. The 8-month-old was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. During a police interview, Jobe, who was the live-in boyfriend of the baby’s mother and was home alone at the time of the incident, admitted to shaking the infant. The shaking was so severe, the infant suffered temporary paralysis.

A Coventry Township teacher at an early learning and childcare facility is facing charges of child endangering and was fired from her job after reports of misconduct.

Summit County Sheriff's deputies said another teacher at Little Steps Big Dreams Academy reported that she witnessed the misconduct and alerted school officials.

Deputies said an investigation revealed that 22-year-old Keira Davis of Akron was involved in three separate incidents during the kids' nap time where she dragged a child by an ankle, another was held down on a mat, and another child had her mouth taped shut and suffered minor injuries. All three victims are 3-years-old.

The incidents happened between April 8th and 11th.

Davis was arrested and charged with 3 counts of child endangering.
