The Summit County Sheriff's Office is reporting a 29-year-old man from Parma was killed in that accident that closed State Mill Road in Coventry Township for more than 3 hours Friday morning.

Reports are that two pedestrians were walking along State Mill Road, one of them, the man that was killed, actually in the roadway. At about 5:30 Friday morning, the victim was hit by an oncoming Honda CRV driven by a 71-year-old man from Coventry Township. 

The victim was taken to Akron General where he was later pronounced dead. 

Neither the driver nor the other pedestrian suffered any injuries. 

The investigation into the accident is ongoing. 

The Summit County Sheriff's Office is investigating a home invasion and robbery at a Coventry Township home on Chenoweth Road last night.

According to the Sheriff's Office report, the suspect or suspects brok into the home at about 11:20 p.m. They took cash and several guns, including a 12-gauge shotgun, three rifles, and serveral other firearms. 

In addition to the robbery, the Sheriff's Office is reporting damage inside the home and damage to vehicles at the home.

The Summit County Sheriff's Office is investigating after a man was shot multiple times along I-77 near Wilbeth Road in Coventry Township Saturday night, just before 10 p.m.

According to the release, Deputies responded to a one-car accident in that same area, where they found a silver BMW that has crashed into the guardrail along the southbound lanes near Wilbeth. The driver was slumped over in the car, revived on the scene, and taken to Akron City Hospital where he was treated and is expected to survive.

Investigators are not releasing the name of the victim, and are asking anyone with information to call the Summit County Sheriff's Office.

(SCSO) On October 6, 2018, at approximately 9:54 p.m., the Summit County Sheriff’s Office responded to a one vehicle accident on Interstate 77 North at the 122 Mile Post. A silver BMW was reported to have crashed into a guard rail and eventually coming to rest in the northbound lanes of traffic.

The driver of the vehicle appeared to be unconscious in the vehicle slumped over the center console. The responding deputies forced open the vehicle and removed the driver. The driver was evaluated and found to have multiple gunshot wounds and was showing no signs of life. The deputies performed first aid until the arrival of the Coventry Fire Department. The male was revived on scene and transported to Akron City Hospital and is expected to survive.

The shooting was determined to have occurred on Interstate 77 South near Wilbeth Road in the city of Akron. The victim was identified as a 22 year old male from the city of Akron. The identity of the male victim is not being released at this time. Anyone with information can call the Summit County Sheriff’s Office or Crimestoppers.

The Summit County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that a five-year-old boy from the City of Green who was hit by a car outside St. Francis De Sales School Tuesday morning has died. 

Sheriff's Office Inspector Bill Holland tells 1590 WAKR that the boy was a student at the school and had just been dropped off in the drop-off area outside St. Francis around 8:23 a.m. Tuesday. The boy got out of the back door along the right side of the car and then walked in front of the vehicle. One of the boy's parents was driving the car didn't notice the boy and hit him; it was not specified whether it was the father or mother. 

The Coventry Fire Department and Summit Metro Crash Team responded to the scene. While the investigation is ongoing, Inspector Holland says that speed, alcohol, nor drugs are believed to be a factor in the accident. 

The Summit County Sheriff's Office is investigating a deadly crash in Coventry Township early Sunday morning. 

According to the report, a 17-year-old boy was ejected from the car he was riding in after an accident just after 2 a.m. Sunday. Once the boy was ejected, he was hit by multiple vehicles along I-77 South in Coventry Township, at mile marker 121. 

Coventry Fire Department responded to the scene, where the boy was pronounced dead shortly afterwords. 

The victim's identity has not been released, pending the Summit County Medical Examiner notifying next of kin. The cause of the accident is still under investigation and no criminal charges have been filed as of Monday morning. 

An Akron woman is charged with theft after Summit County Sheriff's Office detectives were tipped off that she was pocketing donations to a victim's charity fund. 

Back in July, Inspector Bill Holland says the third party manager of the "Walking For You" charity fund notified his office that something wasn't right with the money. The fund was set up to help the families of the victims of the May 28th accident along South Main Street in Coventry Township that left two teenagers dead and seriously injured another. Natasha Boggs, 24, of New Franklin, was charged with two counts of vehicular homicide, two counts involuntary manslaughter, and more, after investigators say she was texting while driving and cross over the marked lines along South Main Street, hitting the group of teens. 

After an investigation into the charity fund, Summit Co. Detectives discovered that Melissa Szentes, 40, of Akron, who was volunteering with the "Walking For You" campaign, was taking donations and using them for her own personal gain. 

Inspector Holland says that she is currently charged with theft, but more charges are possible, as they aren't sure how much money was actually stolen. The Summit County Sheriff's Office is asking anyone who may have donated to Szentes directly to call their office so that they can determine the total amount stolen. 

Szentes hasn't been booked yet, as more charges are pending. 

Summit County Sheriff's Deputies have arrested a Coventry Township woman who allegedly abused her friend's baby while she was watching her. 

The incident occured back in May, when Audrey D. Hunt, 35, offered to watch her friend's 10-month-old child on May 2nd. The mother agreed, willfully allowing Hunt to take the baby to her Coventry Township home. Hours later, the mother called Hunt so that she could have her baby brought back home. Hunt refused, saying she would bring the baby back the next day. 

On May 3rd, the mother got a ride to Hunt's home. That's when she noticed injuries to the baby's face and arms. She took the baby to Akron Children's Hospital, where hospital staff determined that the baby's injuries were consistant with abuse. The Summit County Sheriff's Department Detectives began their investigation. 

On Tuesday, June 20, Hunt was arrested and charged with Felony Interference with Custody, Misdemeanor Child Endangering, and Misdemeanor Assault. She's currently being held in Summit County Jail. 

Two 14-year-old girls were killed, and a 15-year-old boy injured, when a car hit them along South Main Street in Coventry Township Sunday afternoon. 

According to the Summit County Sheriff's Office report, the 24-year-old female driver was traveling down South Main near Leicester Drive about 4:45 p.m. Sunday. The driver from New Franklin, who was not named in the report, drove her 1999 Ford Escort over the fog line and hit the three kids who were playing in or near the South Main Street. One teen girl from Akron was pronounced dead on the scene and the other 14-year-old girl, from Coventry Township, was transported to Akron General Hospital where she later died. The 15-year-old boy was also transported to Akron General where he is still listed in critical condition. 

The driver has not been charged, but Inspector Bill Holland with the Summit County Sheriff's Office says charges are pending after the investigation is complete. 

All three students were reportedly students at Coventry Middle School. The young girls who were killed were preparing for graduation that was scheduled for Tuesday. The graduation has been canceled, though school is in session on Tuesday. Coventry Local Schools Superintendent Rusty Chaboudy says the district's "crisis team" has been deployed to the middle school. Chaboudy tells us several counselors are on campus for students and for teachers as well.

Summit County Sheriff's Detectives respoded to a home in Coventry Township last month after they received information of children being sexually abused.

Detectives and Summit County Children's Services found 9 kids living in the home in "deplorable" conditions. They've since been removed from that home and an investigation found that 18-year-old Cody Haupt was abusing three of the young children, including a 5-year-old boy, a 6-year-old girl, and an 8-year-old boy.

According to the Sheriff's Office report, Haupt is the half-brother of the victims. He has been arrested, charged with three felony counts of rape and more charges are pending. He's in Summit County Jail.

An early morning Sunday hit-skip has Summit County deputies asking for help finding the driver of what's believed to be a Subaru Forrester who hit a man walking on South Main Street in Coventry Township.

The incident occured around 3:30 a.m. near the intersection of North Turkeyfoot Road; the victim suffered life-threatening injuries and was not carrying identification with him at the time he was hit. The unidentified man was taken to Akron General Hospital and police are also asking for help identifying the man as well as the driver of the hit-ski.

(Summit Sheriff) On Sunday January 8, 2017, at approximately 3:30 a.m., the Summit County Sheriff's Office responded to a call that a pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle in the southbound lanes of South Main Street near North Turkeyfoot Road in Coventry Township. The Summit Metro Crash Response Team is currently investigating the crash.

The victim is described as a white male and he had no identification with him at the time of the crash. He was transported to Akron General Hospital with life threatening injuries. The vehicle involved is believed to be a 2010-2013 Subaru Forrester.

Anyone with any information regarding this crash, including the identity of the driver of the vehicle or the identity of the victim is asked to contact Sergeant Lee Hoskins at the Summit County Sheriff's Office at 330-643-2181.

After receiving a tip back on August 17th from the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, the Summit County Sheriff's Detective Bureau launched an investigation into the alleged downloading in child pornography in Coventry Township. 

Throughout their investigation, detectives found that Craig J. Provence, 67, had knowingly downloaded inappropriate images and other materials that exploited children. A warrant was issued and the Sheriff's Office executed a search of a residence at Alma Avenue. They seized a computer, CDs and other electronic storage media from the home and placed Provence under arrest. 

He is currently in Summit County Jail, charged with two counts of Pandering Obscenity Involving a Minor, both felonies. Investigators say additional charges could be handed down pending the outcome of the complete investigation.

A fatal fire in Coventry Township is under investigation.

The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office reports 33-year-old Dana Lonteen was found inside the Portage Lakes Drive apartment when firefighters responded to a fire with heavy smoke around 6 o'clock Tuesday evening.

The victim was taken to Akron City Hospital where she later died from her injuries shortly after 9 p.m. on Wednesday.

Crews are searching for a teen who disappeared while swimming in the Portage Lakes Wednesday afternoon.

Summit County Sheriff's deputies say an 18-year-old woman reported that her and her boyfriend had been swimming off of a boat in the Portage Lakes between the Akron Yacht Club and the Sandy Beach Marina in Coventry Township.

She called 9-1-1 to report that the boat began to drift and he was unable to swim back to the boat. The woman told officials that she tried to rescue him, but she was unable to locate him.

The Coventry Fire Department and the Summit County Sheriff's Office Marine Patrol Unit are currently trying to locate the 18-year-old.

A fatal crash left one person dead and three others injured in Coventry Township early Wednesday morning.

The Summit County Sheriff's Office reports an SUV went off the right side of the roadway and struck the Swartz Road bridge on I-77 northbound.

A 74-year-old Elyria man, a passenger in the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and two passengers were taken to Akron area hospitals by the Coventry Fire Department. Deputies said the driver and one passenger were listed in critical condition.

The third passenger was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The crash is currently under investigation by the Summit County Sheriff's Crash Team.

Authorities say speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash at this point.

A Coventry Township teacher at an early learning and childcare facility is facing charges of child endangering and was fired from her job after reports of misconduct.

Summit County Sheriff's deputies said another teacher at Little Steps Big Dreams Academy reported that she witnessed the misconduct and alerted school officials.

Deputies said an investigation revealed that 22-year-old Keira Davis of Akron was involved in three separate incidents during the kids' nap time where she dragged a child by an ankle, another was held down on a mat, and another child had her mouth taped shut and suffered minor injuries. All three victims are 3-years-old.

The incidents happened between April 8th and 11th.

Davis was arrested and charged with 3 counts of child endangering.

Summit County Sheriff's deputies say they have arrested a Coventry Township man who is believed to be involved in at least a dozen break-ins in Summit County.

Joshua Collmar, 36, was arrested after a month long investigation and two incidents where he fled from authorities. On February 11th, deputies say Collmar tried to strike a cruiser when he was caught in a stolen vehicle with stolen property inside after a break-in in Green. Less than a week later, Collmar was pulled over in another stolen car with several car keys from a local dealership.

Several items were recovered including hand tools, power tools, a U-Haul moving truck full of stolen property, and a 2016 Winnebago camper.

Collmar has been charged with breaking and entering and receiving stolen property. He was booked into the Summit County Jail. 

Last weekend's bitter cold temperatures and icy lakes left Summit County Sheriff's deputies with a rescue mission Friday night.

Deputies responded to a report of a man drowning in the "Iron Channel", located in the east reservoir of Portage Lakes in Coventry Township, late Friday night when temperatures were hovering around 15 degrees and the wind blowing at approximately 20 miles per hour.

Sheriff's Inspector Bill Holland said a pair of good samaritans tried to help rescue the 24-year-old man before deputies arrived, but they were unsuccessful and ended up partially in the water. A deputy helped to pull up the two good samaritans and was assisted by another resident to rescue the unresponsive 24-year-old.

The deputy and resident provided first aid to the victim until Coventry EMS arrived on scene.

The victim and one of the rescuers were taken to Barberton Citizens' Hospital for treatment. Both are expected to make full recoveries.

A 32-year-old man is dead after authorities say he barricaded himself inside a Coventry Township home Sunday night.

Summit County Sheriff's Inspector Bill Holland said Ryan Perkins of New Franklin was found with what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head after a four-hour standoff.

"Our dispatch center received a call from a woman who said her 32-year-old husband was walking around outside in the yard of a Coventry Township residence with a rifle in his mouth," said Holland.

According to deputies, the man was reportedly making threats to harm himself and law enforcement inside the East State Street house.

Deputies were able to get in the home through a bedroom window to safely bring the mother and a child outside. Authorities tried to communicate with Perkins, but were unsuccessful and later found him on a couch with what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation.
