Ellet Man Gets 10 Years For Harassment Campaign

A man officials say conducted a reign of harrassment of his Ellet neighbors will spend the next 10 years behind bars.

42 year-old Jason West was sentenced after pleading guilty to 22 counts of harrassment, witness intimidation and obstructing justice.

West was also charged with harrassing Summit County prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh.

He was charged with sending sexually explicit letters, nude photos, pizzas and prostitutes to a neighbor's homes, and with harrassing officials and media outlets even behind bars.

West bragged about killing 31 people - crimes he did not commit.

(Summit County Prosecutor's Office, news release) Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh announced today that Summit County Common Pleas Court Judge Todd McKenney sentenced Jason West, 42, of Hillman Road in Akron, to 10 years in prison.

On October 21, 2015, West pled guilty to the following charges:

17 counts of Telecommunications Harassment – felonies of the fifth degree
Intimidation – a felony of the third degree
Menacing by Stalking – a felony of the fourth degree
Two counts of Intimidation of a Victim or Witness – misdemeanors of the first degree
Obstructing Official Business – a misdemeanor of the second degree

"Jason West preyed on innocent, unsuspecting people in the community, and made them fear for their lives," said Prosecutor Walsh. "West continually harassed, badgered, and made false accusations about his neighbors and community leaders. Even as an inmate at the Summit County Jail, West would contact his victims. I'm pleased he will spend significant time behind bars."

West was arrested on October 1, 2014, accused of sending dozens of explicit text messages and images to a number of people and organizations in Summit County. West also stalked one of his victims by putting explicit notes where she worked. West would continually harass the community by sending prostitutes, pizzas, and taxi-cabs to the homes of elderly neighbors at all hours of the day and night. He also sent text messages containing nude photos to members of the community.

As an inmate in the Summit County Jail, West continued to harass his victims. He relentlessly sent letters to Summit County judges, the Akron Police Department, the Oriana House, the Akron Beacon Journal and several other government agencies and media outlets, accusing investigators of unfounded misconduct.
