OVI Trick Or Treat

Sobriety checkpoints are nothing new in Summit County, but the timing of the next one is interesting.

The Summit County OVI Task Force says it'll be out on Saturday night - which is Halloween night.

Lt. Joe Davis with the Task Force says the kids out, and drunk drivers, could be tragic...with the children preoccupied with trick or treating.

"They may not think to look both ways, to go out and start on the roadway. And if you're impaired, your reaction times and your ability to operate your motor vehicle is just not there," Lt. Davis tells WAKR.net. "It could just be the perfect formula for tragedy."

Lt. Davis says many communities will stick with the traditional October 31st date for "beggar's night", so there'll be a lot of kids looking for treats.

And he says their parents risk becoming victims to impared drivers, who don't arrange for a designated driver or stay away from the steering wheel.

The Summit County OVI Task Force doesn't publicize checkpoint locations in advance, though Lt. Davis says word spreads fast enough by social media.
