Serious Crash Closes I-71 Sunday

I-71 South was closed for about six hours Sunday afternoon into the evening after a multi-vehicle crash involving a semi near Route 18 in Montville Township.

Reports are the accident started in the Northbound lanes of 71, when the driver of the semi truck swerved to the left and hit a Nissan Rogue. Both vehicles hit the guardrail, entered the median, and then the semi continued Northbound onto 71 South.

The driver of the semi is reportedly in stable condition at Metro Health in Cleveland. The driver of the Rogue, that ended up flipping onto its roof and coming to a stop in the southbound lanes, was taken to Medina Hospital and is in stable condition there. A third driver, who was heading 71 South and was hit by the Rogue that landed in the southbound lanes, is in Critical Condition at Akron City Hospital.

Medina Co. Says "OK" to CCW in County Buildings

Medina County commissioners unanimously passed a resolution allowing concealed carry permit holders to carry a concealed handgun in county government building Tuesday.

The county is now in-line with the state law that was passed back in December of last year.

Some are opposed to the ruling. County Auditor Mike Kovack took issue with the resolution, saying he'll fight to ban guns on the third floor of the county admin building, where his offices are located.

In the state law, it is colleges, local governments, and others can decide whether to allow or not allow concealed handguns on their respective campuses.

One Confirmed Dead In Medina Apartment Explosion

An explosion at a Medina apartment complex early Thursday morning has reportedly left one man dead and more injured.

At about 3:15 a.m. Thursday, an explosion at the Medina Village Apartments on Springbrook Road is what started a fire that burned for hours. The man who died is reportedly an 18-year-old resident of the apartment complex and was bed-ridden. Reports say that both of the man's parents were badly burned in the fire and transported to Metro Health in Cleveland.

As of 9 a.m., the gas company was waiting for Medina Fire crews to put out "hot spots" inside the complex.

The investigation into what caused the fire is ongoing.

In Akron Wednesday, a home exploded at the corner of Courtland and South Hawkins Avenues. That investigation is still ongoing.
