East, Hoover Battle In Week #3

Marques Hayes of the East Dragons spoke with Sam Bourquin ahead of their matchup with the Vikings of North Canton Hoover.

Former Tallmadge head boys basketball coach Michael Bluey spoke with the Sam and Brad Show to talk about his new venture, coaching the boys basketball team at North Canton Hoover.

Bluey served as an an assistant at Jackson High School before becoming the head coach at Tallmadge. 

 "Opportunities like Hoover don't come around very often," Bluey said. 

 "It's a diamond in the rough,and I'm certainly excited to get started."

AUDIO Hoover Softball In Familiar Ground

Sam and Brad caught up with longtime North Canton Hoover softball coach Jerry Goodpasture to talk about the team's upcoming appearance in the State Final Four against Lebanon Thursday at 12:30pm.

 

The game will be held at Akron's Firestone Stadium.

AUDIO Mercy Medical Classic Tips Off Saturday

Dwight Blair, one of the event coordinators for the Mercy Medical Center Classic Basketball tournament at North Canton Hoover High School, spoke with Sam and Brad Friday.

The tournament will take place Saturday and Sunday and will feature teams like Canton McKinley, Canton Central Catholic, and the host Hoover Vikings.

AUDIO Blackledge, Vikings Ready For Pups

Two of Stark County's better teams will square off at the Canton Civic Center Thursday for a right to move on in the state tournament.

North Canton Hoover head boy's basketball coach Todd Blackledge joined the Sam Bourquin Show to talk about the Vikings' buying in to the program and playing well at the right time.

"We're excited to play tomorrow night and see if we can earn another 32 minutes," Todd said. "Our chemistry is at our best, our skill level is as good as it's been and our toughness and grit has come to the forefront here in the last couple of weeks."

 

The Vikings are led by seniors Eli Blackledge (Todd's son) and Nathan Fox, and coach Blackledge says there will be some challenges posed by the tough-minded McKinley Bulldogs on Thursday.
