Ray Horner Podcast - 10/10/2018

:28 - Nominations for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame were released on Tuesday, and naturally, there will always be a debate on who’ll go in, who gets snubbed, and the criteria and qualifications overall. Ray, Jeanne, and Tony chatted about the list of candidates, as well as those who are on the outside looking in.

9:23 - Hurricane Michael, as of this post, has been upgraded to a Category 4 and is set to blast the Florida Panhandle as early as this afternoon. As is the case with hurricanes and tropical storms, the American Red Cross is there to help, as Jim McIntyre stated with Ray.

16:03 - Continuing the coverage from Florida is WFLA’s John Conrad, who came on to set the scene. Also joining us is Ed Esposito, former news director at WAKR.

25:50 - Time now for the Academic Exam, sponsored by the Akron-Summit County Public Library. This week, we have Parker and Mason, two brothers from Green High School competing.

36:40 - Patrick Bravo is the president of the school board in Akron, and he joined Ray to talk about the foundation’s continued support of LeBron James’s I Promise school and what to do with the older school facilities.

Cleveland will rock more often starting in a couple years.

Friday night's Rock And Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will honor the class of 2016 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, but it will soon return to Cleveland and will continue to do so on a more regular basis.

In an interview with the website Den of Geek, Rock Hall CEO Joel Peresman said that next year's induction ceremony will remain in Brooklyn, but will come home to Cleveland every other year starting in 2018.

Peresman said Cleveland "really just came around in the past few years to being able to afford to do the fundraising they need to do for an event of this size".

You can see this year's ceremony on HBO on April 30.

Black Keys Guests At 2016 Rock Hall Inductions

They haven't been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame - yet - but a popular Akron band will help bring in new Rock Hall inductees this year.

Akron's Black Keys will help induct the 2016 Rock Hall class in April along with Rob Thomas and Lars Ulrich of Metallica. Cheap Trick, Chicago, Deep Purple, N.W.A. and Steve Miller will go into the Rock Hall this year.

Todd Mesek with the Rock Hall tells WAKR's Jasen Sokol that the Black Keys are influenced musically, like other current bands, by Rock Hall of Famers.

Though there are often performances involving Rock Hall guests, Mesek says things aren't set yet for this year.

The induction will be in New York on April 8th, and will be aired later that month on HBO.
