The sentence for an Akron man convicted of murdering a family in Barberton on New Years' Eve 2013 has been affirmed by a Summit County Judge.

The jury which convicted Eric Hendon in the killings of John Kohler, 18-year old Ashley Carpenter and 14-year old David Carpenter-Kohler recommended a sentence of life in prison without parole, and that's what he'll officially get after Summit County Common Pleas Court judge Amy Corrigal Jones handed down the sentence on Wednesday.

Hendon's brother, Michael Hendon, was sentenced to life without parole last September.

They broke into the home looking for marijuana and money, leaving only Kohler's girlfriend Ronda Blankenship barely alive.

She testified against him.

(Summit County Prosecutor's Office, news release) Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh announced today that Summit County Common Pleas Court Judge Amy Corrigall-Jones sentenced Eric Hendon, 33, of Fawler Avenue in Akron, to Life in Prison Without Parole for killing three people in Barberton on December 31, 2013.

On April 21, 2016, a Summit County jury recommended Hendon be sentenced to life without parole after finding him guilty in the 2013 murders of 42-year-old John Kohler and his two teenaged children, as well as the attempted murder of Kohler's live-in girlfriend, Ronda Blankenship.

"Eric Hendon executed three people, and nearly killed a fourth. This was one of the most horrific cases we have ever prosecuted and he deserves to spend the rest of his life in prison," said Prosecutor Walsh. "I am relieved to know Eric Hendon will no longer be able to harm any other innocent people."
