Browns Name Kizer Starter Against Tampa Bay

The Cleveland Browns have announced rookie quarterback DeShone Kizer will start the Browns preseason game 3 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Saturday, August 26th in Tampa.

Here is the statement from Hue Jackson:

“This morning, I informed our quarterbacks that DeShone will be our starter for the third preseason game against Tampa. He has made a lot of progress by investing the time necessary to learn our offense, working hard to improve on his fundamentals while also effectively moving the offense in preseason games. Development is so important for a young quarterback, this is the next step he needs to take and he deserves this opportunity. We are very excited about seeing DeShone in the role of starter for this week, as he is certainly positioning himself well to earn the starting job heading into the regular season.

“Much like DeShone, Brock, Cody and Kevin have worked extremely hard throughout training camp and have helped create a very supportive environment in our quarterback room. They’ve pushed each other, worked well together and we expect that to continue.”

AUDIO Petrak: Browns Ready For Saints

Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle Telegram spoke about the Browns and the Saints getting ready for preseason game #1 at FirstEnergy Stadium Thursday.

Published in Sam and Brad

The Cleveland Browns are going with Brock Osweiller at quarterback to start the 2017 preseason against the New Orleans Saints Thursday, August 10th, at FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland.

The announcement came Monday morning, along with the following statement from Browns head coach Hue Jackson:

“At this stage in the evaluation process of our quarterbacks, we are going to have Brock start the preseason opener against the Saints on Thursday night,” head coach Hue Jackson said. “A lot goes into our evaluation but it’s always going to be about efficiently and effectively running the offense. You want your starter to be able to do that despite any circumstance. Brock hasn’t really gotten any first team reps and this will give him that chance. We look forward to seeing what he can do with this opportunity throughout the week and against the Saints. Cody will be the second quarterback to take the field followed by DeShone and then Kevin. I’m pleased with the way our quarterbacks have competed and improved throughout the offseason and training camp. We are going to see a lot more of all of them this preseason and everyone in that room still has the chance to earn more opportunities and the right to lead our team as the starter when the regular season begins on September 10th.”
