Ex-Professor Sentenced For Teen Encounter

A former university professor gets eight months in prison for meeting a teenage boy, with the intention of having sex.

45 year-old Willie Harrell pled guilty in July of felony importuning counts.

Akron police arrested him last August in the parking lot of an elementary school. He was with a 15 year-old boy, and told police he met the boy online.

He said he went to the school parking lot with the intent of having sex with the teen.

Harrell tried to flee to Canada, and was later arrested in Louisiana.

(Summit County Prosecutor's Office, news release) Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh announced today that Summit County Common Pleas Court Judge Amy Corrigall Jones sentenced Willie Harrell, 45, of Arnold Avenue in Akron, to eight months in prison in connection with meeting an underage teen for sex.

On July 25, 2016, Harrell pled guilty to the following charge:

Importuning – a felony of the 5th degree

In August of 2015, Akron Police arrested Harrell in the parking lot of an elementary school. Harrell, who was a local university professor at the time, was with a 15-year-old boy. Harrell told police he met the boy through an online site and drove to the school parking lot with the intent of having sex.

While out on bond, Harrell attempted to flee into Canada. Harrell was turned away at the border, and was released back into the U.S. In March of 2016, Harrell was caught in Louisiana and extradited back to Summit County.

Woman Sentenced In Akron Party Knife Attack

An Akron woman who slashed another woman's face and neck in a party argument in 2014 will spend five years in prison.

53 year-old Jacqueline Ware of Beardsley Street was found guilty by a Summit County jury last month on two felonious assault charges.

Prosecutors say the argument broke out at a January 2014 party on Russell Avenue, when Ware took out a knife and cut the victim's face and neck.

The scars are now permanent, and prosecutors say if the wounds were deeper, they could have been deadly.

(Summit County Prosecutor's Office, news release) Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh announced today that Jacqueline Ware, 53 of Beardsley Street in Akron, was sentenced to five years in prison for slashing another person in the face and neck.

On December 4, 2015 a Summit County jury found Ware guilty of the following charges:

Two counts of Felonious Assault – felonies of the 2nd degree

On January 9, 2014 Ware and the victim attended a party on Russell Avenue in Akron. An argument broke out, which led to pushing and shoving. Eventually, Ware took out a knife and cut the victim's face and neck. The attack left permanent scars on the victim's face.

"To this day, the victim continues to suffer from what happened over two years ago," said Prosecutor Walsh. "The wound to her neck could have been deadly if it was any deeper. We are pleased knowing the defendant will spend significant time in prison and that justice was finally served for the victim."

Ex-Pizza Shop Manager Sentenced For Video Snooping

The former manager of a Twinsburg pizza shop has been sentenced to four years in prison for videotaping female employees with a hidden bathroom camera.

34 year-old Paul Strebler of Tallmadge pleaded guilty to charges related to the hidden camera taping in September.

Prosecutors say Strebler set up the hidden camera to record several female employees, some under the age of 18.

He fled to the Grand Canyon in Arizona, where he was arrested by park rangers.

(Summit County Prosecutor's Office, news release) Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh announced today that Summit County Common Pleas Court Judge Lynne Callahan sentenced Paul Strebler, 34, , of Norton Drive in Tallmadge, to four years in prison. Strebler was also designated a Tier II sex offender, meaning he will have to register with the local sheriff every six months for the next 25 years.

On September 16, 2015, Strebler pled guilty to the following charges:

Two counts of Illegal Use of a Minor in Nudity Orientated Material – both felonies of the second degree
Seven counts of Voyeurism – misdemeanors of the first degree

"Paul Strebler violated his victims and destroyed their sense of privacy. This has become a living nightmare for the girls involved," said Prosecutor Walsh. "Many of the victims worked for Mr. Strebler and trusted him. I am pleased to know the community will be kept safe from the deviant actions of Mr. Strebler."

Strebler was the manager of a local pizza restaurant and the district manager at several other shops. Strebler set up a hidden camera in the bathroom of the restaurant and recorded several of his female employees, some of whom were under the age of 18 at the time. Strebler fled to Arizona and was eventually arrested by National Park Service Rangers at the Grand Canyon.

A now former Akron police officer gets a four year prison term for attacking and stalking his former girlfriend and her new boyfriend.

Northeast Ohio Media Group reports that 44 year-old Eric Paull, a 19 year Akron police veteran who was a sergeant, was sentenced today in the courtroom of Summit County Common Pleas Court judge Amy Corrigall Jones.

As a part of a deal with special prosecutors from the state Attorney General's Office, Paull won't be allowed to work as a police officer again.

Paull retired from the Akron force in August, after being on paid administrative leave.
