AUDIO: Terry Pluto On Francona, ALCS

The first ALCS in nine years for the Indians is set to kick off Friday, and this time, the Tribe has the home field advantage.

Terry Pluto, author and long-time columnist for the Akron Beacon Journal and now the Plain Dealer, joined the Ray Horner Morning Show to talk about this run from Terry Francona’s Indians. Pluto discussed Tito’s managerial style and how the players have come to embrace it. Though Francona may not show it publicly, Pluto believes beating his former team in the ALDS was huge.

Onto the ALCS, Pluto calls the Blue Jays a “strange” team, in that not many believed Toronto would get this far. The Plain Dealer writer said the strength of the Blue Jays was not necessarily their power hitting, but their pitching, which had a lower ERA than the Indians.

Could Believeland finally get its happy ending, or will a Cavaliers upset add to the misery? Time will tell.

Terry Pluto, best-selling author and columnist at the Plain Dealer, joined the Ray Horner Morning Show to chat about the goings on in Cleveland sports, both past and present. First, Pluto felt the Believeland 30 for 30 was just “okay.” He did echo Rich Heldenfels’s thoughts on the lack of female members of the Northeast Ohio press in the documentary, and that he didn’t need another reminder of of the misery since he was present for them, but Pluto was fine with the film overall.

Onto the present, Pluto chatted about the state of the Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals. Pluto thinks the team has responded well to Tyronn Lue, claiming that the midseason firing of David Blatt “took the excuse away” from the players that, if they were to lose, they’d blame the coach. Other points of interest were the fiery jumpshooting from the Cavs, including the deadline move of bringing Channing Frye on board, whom GM David Griffin has been pursuing since 2009.
