Gas prices in Akron, and across the state, continue on their downward trend over the past couple of weeks, falling to a statewide average of $2.08 per gallon of regular unleaded, according to GasBuddy.com. In Akron, the average fell about 4.5 cents to an average of $2.03 per gallon of regular unleaded as of Sunday night, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 372 gas stations in Akron. 

Nationally, gas prices have fallen .7 cents over the past week, averaging $2.20 per gallon. 

One year ago, gas prices in Akron were 11.4 cents higher and one month ago were 14.6 cents per gallon higher. According to GasBuddy.com, the national average has decreased one center per gallon during the last month and is currently 8.4 cents lower per gallon than this day one year ago. 

Akron Police say formal assault charges have been filed against 19-year-old Brian Bell, a University of Akron student and football player. 

The charges stem from an incident at a party during last school year in May. A report filed by the victim, Jason Watkins, claims Bell sucker punched him and then hit him in face a few more times. Watkins went to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center and was treated for a cut on his nose and swelling above his left eye. 

Bell, who plays likebacker for the Zips, is from Valdosta, Georgia, and was originally offered a football scholarship to Florida State University. The university retracted the scholarship after Bell was investigated in the death of a high school classmate back that happened back in January of 2015. A grand jury was convened in that case and the student's death was ruled accidental. 

Bell is scheduled to make his first court appearance on September 30. 

The Akron Police Department has released the full list of road closures that start Friday and continue on a rolling schedule through early Saturday afternoon. 

Beginning Friday, S. Main St. Between State and Bowery will close start at 6 p.m. At 6:30, S. Main St. between W. Exchange and State St will close. At 7 p.m., E. Buchtel Ave. between High and S. Main St. will close along with S. High St. between Church St. and University.

After receiving a tip back on August 17th from the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, the Summit County Sheriff's Detective Bureau launched an investigation into the alleged downloading in child pornography in Coventry Township. 

Throughout their investigation, detectives found that Craig J. Provence, 67, had knowingly downloaded inappropriate images and other materials that exploited children. A warrant was issued and the Sheriff's Office executed a search of a residence at Alma Avenue. They seized a computer, CDs and other electronic storage media from the home and placed Provence under arrest. 

He is currently in Summit County Jail, charged with two counts of Pandering Obscenity Involving a Minor, both felonies. Investigators say additional charges could be handed down pending the outcome of the complete investigation.

The Summit County Sheriff's Office is investigating a vandalism of the former Northfield Center/Sagamore Hills Fire District Substation, located at 50 W. Aurora Road. 

They were alerted to the incident, that they say occured over the weekend, on Monday when staff entered the building and saw the damage. According to the press release, thousands of dollars in damage was done to equipment that is stored in the building and the building itself. Inspector Bill Holland with the Sheriff's Office says the vandal or vandals broke in, wrote profanity on pieces of equipment and other items in the building, and caused damage to the building. Furthermore, Holland says, the suspect(s) doused beds, carpeting, and 14 pieces of turnout gear in urine. 

The Sheriff's Office is asking that anyone with information ont he incident call the Detective Bureau at 330-643-2131. 

The U.S. Marshal's Northeast Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force says their Fugitive of the Week is hiding out in Akron. 

Davon Irvine, 22, is charged with aggravated robbery and felonious assault in connection to an incident in a Pontiac Street home on December of 2015. According to police, Irvine and another man entered the home with two women. While the women distracted two brothers that lived in the home, Irvine and his accomplice zip-tied them, pistol whipped them, and then took off with more than $1,000 cash and a cell phone. 

A warrant was issued for Irvine back on January 3, 2016, and he's been on the run since the incident. 

Irvine is no stranger to the law. He was released from prison last year after serving time for shooting a man in the face during an argument inside a home on East Avenue in Akron three years ago. 

U.S. Marshals believe Irvine is hiding out in the Akron area, and have narrowed their search to the 1100 block of Copley Avenue. 

Anyone with information is asked to call Akron Police or the U.S. Marshal's office. 

UPDATE: Police have identified the victim of the police-involved shooting at 61-year-old Philip B. Hasan who lived at the apartments located at 1000 Florida Avenue. The autopsy revealed that Hasan died of a gunshot wound to the chest.

Akron Police say an officer shot and killed a suspect who refused officers' orders to not reach for a rifle. 

The incident happened Sunday afternoon around 3:30 when police were called to an apartement parking lot along Florida Avenue in Akron. The inital call was regarding an altercation between a 61-year-old man and another resident of the apartment complex. The victim called police saying the suspect clammed his arm in a car door during the altercation.

When police arrived on the scene, the suspect was walking toward a van parked in the lot. Officers ordered him to stop when they saw him reaching for a rifle that was stashed in the van. The man refused and that's when one of the two responding officers opened fire, hitting the man with several shots in the torso. The man, who's name has not been released, was transported to Cleveland Clinic Akron General where he later died.

The officer who fired his weapon has been placed on paid administrative leave, as is protocol for the department while the investigation is ongoing. No officers were injured during the incident. 

A serious accident along I-77 started with a high-speed chase between Ohio State Highway Patrol Troopers and a suspect vehicle. 

According to the State Highway Patrol, a Trooper attempted to pull over a newer model Chevy Camaro around 1:45 a.m. Thursday along I-77 Northbound near the Akron-Canton Airport. The Trooper said when he turned on his lights, signalling the driver to pull over, the driver continued and sped up. That's when the pursuit started. 

The driver then attempted to exit the highway at the I-77 North exit to Massillon Road., lost control, and struck a light pole and a traffic box. The car was totaled and the driver was ejected from the vehicle. 

The car came to a rest on the west side of Massillon Road with the driver lying in the middle of the street alongside glass and other debris from the vehicle. 

He was transported to a local hospital with unknown injuries. The ramp to Massillon Road was closed for several hours following the incident, but as of 10:35 a.m. has re-opened. 

Police say a family member has positively identified the body of missing 43-year-old Stacey Stanley as one of the bodies that was found Tuesday morning inside an abandoned home on Covert Court in Ahsland County. 

Stacey was last seen around 11 p.m. last Thursday at a BP gas station East Main and Union Streets. She had made a phone call to her brother saying that she had a flat tire, but was making her way home, but never made it. 

Early Tuesday morning, a woman called Ashland police saying that she was being held captive. Police arrived at the home on Covert Court and found that woman alive, the remains of two other women, and 40-year-old Shawn Michael Grate. Once in police custody, Grate told police that he'd killed the two woman they found at the home on Covert Court, and a third woman whose body was in Richland County. Grate told police he'd killed the woman at a home on Park Avenue East in Madison Township back in June of this year. 

Stacey's uncle says the family was called to the police station just after Tuesday night to look at photos. That was when the family positively identified Stacey. During a press conference later on Tuesday, the family of Stacey Stanley was upset with the investigation into her disappearance that was reported last Thursday night.

Grate is being held on abduction charges in Ashland County and is facing many more charges as the investigation continues.  

The Larry O'Brien Trophy has made the rounds since the Cavs locked up the 2016 NBA World Championship, defeating the Golden State Warriors. Now the championship trophy can boast a bird's-eye view from the Goodyear Blimp, after a trip in the iconic conveyance. 

It's the first time the blimp has given a ride to any professional sports championship trophy.
