(ODOT) Beginning on Monday evening, January 28, at 8 p.m. the following lane restrictions and ramp closures will be in place through mid-March for repairs to the East Ave. bridges over I-76:

• I-76 eastbound under east Ave. will be reduced to ONE lane.
• The ramp from I-76 eastbound to I-76 eastbound/Kenmore Leg will be CLOSED. The detour will be I-277 eastbound to I-77 northbound to I-76 westbound.
• The ramp from I-76 eastbound/Kenmore Leg to I-76 eastbound will be CLOSED. The detour will be I-277 eastbound to I-77 northbound.

(Tuesday, January 29 – Wednesday, January 30)

Beginning on Tuesday evening, January 29, at 10 p.m. I-76 eastbound under the East Ave. bridge will be CLOSED through Wednesday morning, January 30, at 6 a.m. for bridge repairs. The detour will be I-76 westbound/Kenmore Leg to I-277 eastbound to I-77 northbound.

(Monday, February 4 – Friday, February 8)

Beginning on Monday evening, February 4, at 8 p.m. and continuing through Friday morning, February 8, at 6 a.m. I-76 westbound under East Ave. will have various nightly lane closures for bridge repairs. These restrictions will occur nightly between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.

As part of the Interstate 76 and Main Street project, ODOT currently plans to flip the westbound traffic of I-76 over on to the eastbound side on Sunday, December 2nd. 

The on ramp to 76W from the southbound side of S. Main St. will be CLOSED until late fall of 2019. 

For a period of time during the day, the existing off ramp from 76W to Broadway and downtown will close in order for the contractor to do some required paving. Traffic will be detoured using Dart Ave., Thornton and S. Main St. Once this work is completed, traffic will then exit on to the new Broadway off ramp.

Charles Queer, 64, of Tallmadge, was sentenced to 3 years in prison, fined $15,000, and has had his license suspended for the rest of his life, in Summit County Common Pleas Court Friday morning. Judge Joy Malek-Oldfield handing down that sentence. 

Back in March of 2016, 17-year-old Patricia Powell's car had broken down along I-76 in Akron. Queer, who was driving under the influence, slammed his car into the back of Powell's vehicle, killing her. 

Queer pleaded no contest to two felony counts of aggravated vehicle homicide and one misdemeanor count of operating under the influence of alcohol. In court, Queer's attorney said that while he's entering a no contest plea, his client is not denying guilt. 

The family of Powell recalled that in court, Queer had expressed no remorse and had never apologized for taking her life. Powell was a senior at Ellet High School, scheduled to graduate that year. 

UPDATE 1:40 PM: ODOT tells WAKR.net that the planned closures and construction have been delayed until next weekend due to the weather.

Construction around I-76 East will impact the morning commute for Friday, April 22.

Bridge work will close down several ramps around the Central Interchange beginning at 6 a.m. Friday.

The ramp from I-77 North to I-76 East will be closed. Drivers can detour around from I-77 North to Grant Street to I-76 East.

The ramp from State Route 8 South to I-76 East will be closed. Drivers can detour from I-77 North to Grant Street to I-76 East.

The entrance and exit ramps from I-76 East to Arlington will be closed.

Lastly there will be lane restrictions on I-76 East between Grant Street and Fuller Street.

This is all part of a $8.6 million bridge repair project by the Ohio Department of Transportation between the Kenmore Leg and the Portage County line. The entire project is projected to be completed by late October.
