Ray Horner Podcast - 1/22/2020

:19 - Derek Jeter and Larry Walker are the newest members of the Baseball Hall of Fame, as Omar Vizquel still has a ways to go, even though he’s on his way up. Ray and Tony both believe Omar is a hall of famer, while they talked about the future of another Cleveland shortstop in Francisco Lindor.

4:12 - Dr. John Green gives us great insight from time to time on local and national political matters, and the focus has been on the senate impeachment trial this week. Dr. Green talked about what impeachment will mean to the Democrats, President Trump, and the country in general.

12:46 - We hear all this talk about impeachment, but what about the history of this process? Historian at the University of Akron, Dr. Kevin Kern, gave us a look.

18:15 - We’ve been talking about the present and future of Chapel Hill Mall and what it will do for the surrounding communities. According to Tallmadge mayor David Kline, he’s not too concerned with it. Kline also touched on how his town fared in 2019 and the continued development in 2020.

Ray Horner Podcast - 11/19/2019

:19 - If an engagement falls apart, who gets to keep the ring, the giver or receiver? Is an engagement ring a gift or a form of a contract? The morning show panel discussed this in great detail.

9:50 - Omar Vizquel’s name appeared on hall of fame ballots for the third time. Will his defense, longevity, and likability propel him to Cooperstown? Bob DiBiasio from the Indians, Omar’s long-time former team, joined the program to discuss Vizquel’s chances.

17:42 - The Browns-Steelers games scheduled for December 1st has been moved up three hours to 1 o’clock game. Is it because the Chiefs and Raiders is a bigger matchup with playoff implications? Probably, but the NFL may be trying to wash their hands of the Myles Garrett-Mason Rudolph situation.

21:46 - To end today’s podcast, Ray shares a few facts on Neil Simon’s The Odd Couple. The television series, that is.

The kid out of Peoria, Illinois is headed to Cooperstown, by way of Philadelphia, Chicago, Los Angeles, Baltimore, and, most notably, Cleveland. Jim Thome, the Indians’ all-time home run leader, is the newest member of the Baseball Hall of Fame, picked on his first try.

Bob DiBiasio, VP of the Tribe, joined the Ray Horner Morning Show to talk about the heart of Thome’s Indians career, which began in 1991, ended in 2002, and had a brief homecoming in 2011. DiBiasio talked about what Thome did off the field, which was where he showcased both his work ethic and his humble personality.

Sheldon Ocker, who covered the Tribe for decades, also came on WAKR to remember Thome. Ocker had the chance to see the lanky infielder grow to become one of his generation’s greatest power hitters. Ocker also shared his thoughts on Omar Vizquel, who had a nice showing in his first time on the ballot.
