“During her first three years, she was our junior varsity goalkeeper as she learned how to play what I would say is the most difficult position on the field,” he said.

“This season, she earned the spot of our starting varsity goalkeeper. She made countless great save after great save in some really huge moments throughout the season.”

That also carries off the field, Dimengo continues.

“She does a great job excelling in the classroom while playing three varsity sports throughout the school year: soccer, bowling, and softball.”

In addition to being a three sport athlete, she is also a member of the National Honor Society and ranked near the top of her senior class.

His coach Brian Biel said that the junior captain knows the meaning of working hard and staying focused.

"He leads by example and has earned the respect of his teammates and coaches through his hard work, positive attitude, and pursuit of personal and team growth," he said,

Lord said that school always comes first and the coaches and his fellow teammates are always cognizant of that.

As always, the goal is States, but last year in just his sophomore season, Samuel was 6th in sectionals and 7th in the North Coast Classic.

Coach Wallace talked about Mason’s hard work on and off the court

“She’s a relentless defender, first one in the gym, last one to leave, I call her the rock in your shoe” Wallace said.

“But the most impressive quality is her character, Sarah has Great Parents and she truly exemplifies Student-Athlete.”

Sarah is a four year starter and letter winner for Ellet and says it’s great playing basketball with people she’s grown up with and enjoys being around.

“It’s just a great feeling,” Mason said with a smile.

Ellet HS Teen Arrested in Online "Copycat" Threat

Akron Police have arrested a 16-year-old Ellet High School student after making threats online that referenced the Parkland, Florida shooting that left 17 people dead on Valentines Day.

The student, whose name hasn't been released because he is a juvenile, allegedly posted a message to Snapchat indicating that he was going to "shoot up Ellet High School" and entitled, allegedly, the note "I hate Florida, part 2."

Employees of Ellet High School, who also have parents that attend the school, notified police about the messages.

The boy has been booked in Summit County Jail on the third degree felony charges of making terroristic threats.

Akron Police were notified of another threat that was posted to Facebook referencing a past school shooting and claiming that the author of the post, very specifically, was going to carry out an attack on Firestone High School. The post even reference February 15, as the target date for such an attack. After investigating, it turns out that post was from one year ago and showed up in the caller's Facebook Timeline as a "memory."

Still though, no arrest has been made in reference to that specific threat.

UPDATE Ellet High Reopens After Fire

Ellet High School will open again for students Wednesday.

Ellet High has been closed this week after cleanup crews spent the past few days clearing smoke and water damage from Saturday night's fire inside a construction classroom on the first floor.

Containment walls were built around areas directly affected by the fire, allowing students to return to classes in the rest of the building.

The investigation into what caused the fire continues.

-----

(Earlier coverage) Ellet High School remains closed Tuesday as clean-up crews continue to ready the school for students after Saturday night's fire inside a construction classroom on the first floor.

Akron City Schools Communications Director Mark Williamson says it's a matter of safety for the students of Ellet. While the fire was mostly contained to that one classroom, smoke spread throughout the building and left a lingering smell which could be harmful to anyone occupying the building. Water damage is also a factor, as fire crews used their hoses to extinguish the blaze. Williamson says there is potential to continue clean-up efforts while students are back in the classrooms, containing certain affected areas with containment walls, but they want to be sure it's completely safe before doing so.

They expect to have the clean-up wrapped up soon, but they're not rushing things at Ellet High. The investigation into what caused the fire, meanwhile, continues. Fire investigators have not designated the fire as accidental, nor as arson, as of Tuesday.

Capt. Zampelli says the student had a loaded, 40-caliber semi-automatic handgun, which has been confiscated.

He says the student faces felony charges of carrying a concealed weapon and carrying a firearm into the school. The student was sent to the Summit County Juvenile Detention Center.
