Young, Day Win Big 10 Awards for Buckeyes

Ohio State Defensive End Chase Young has been named the Big 10 Defensive Player of the Year.

In spite of missing two games due to suspension, Young notched 38 total tackles and 16.5 sacks, which is a school record.

In other Ohio State Football news, head coach Ryan Day, in his first year at the helm, was named the Big 10 Coach of the Year, sharing the honor with Minnesota head coach P.J. Fleck.

Shockingly, that's the first time a Buckeyes head coach has won the honor since Earl Bruce did it 40 years ago.

The Buckeyes, meanwhile, remain number 1 in the College Football Playoff Committee rankings that were released on Tuesday night. There was no change in the top rankings over last week as LSU, Clemson, and Georgia round out the top 4.

Ohio State takes on Wisconsin Saturday night in the Big 10 Championship Game that's being hosted at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Kickoff is at 8 p.m. and you can hear it all on 1590 WAKR and 93.5 FM.

Former GlenOak standout Bri'onte Dunn is no longer with the Ohio State football program after a violation of team rules according to the university.

High School football guru Tim Rogers joined the Sam Bourquin Show Tuesday to talk about where the former Golden Eagle running back might land now that he's no longer a part of Urban Meyer's team.

"I'm sure he wants to play someplace, and I'm sure he will find a place to play," Rogers said.  "He proved he could play in the Big 10 and I know some MAC teams will be interested."

Bri'onte was expected to get some early playing time this season with inexperience at the running back position with youngsters Mike Weber and Curtis Samuel in the fold.

Dunn had played sparingly with the Buckeyes during his four years with the program and had already earned his degree.

He is eligible to play immediately.

One such athlete is former Ohio State safety Tyvis Powell, who is looking to make his impact on an NFL team coming up.

Powell joined the Sam Bourquin Show on a "Feel Good Friday" to talk about his prep leading up to the draft, his time at OSU, and the lessons and joys he took from playing the game of football.

Tyvis says he's excited about the process and is working towards becoming the best player he can be.

"I'm excited and nervous at the same time, but it'll be another step and it'll be exciting impressing new coaches and hanging with new teammates," he said.

Powell was part of the 2014 National Championship team.

Tyvis and some of his fellow Buckeyes will be signing autographs at the Courtyard Canton-Marriott on Saturday at 1pm and 3:30pm.

Powell talked about playing at Ohio State and how it was a memorable experience he'll never forget.

"When you make plays and the stadium erupts, there's nothing like it, we have the best fans in the land and I'll miss them," he said.
