Aaron has been working with RCRG since August of 2008 covering various news and sporting events. He graduated in 2003 from St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron. He then went onto the University of Akron in May of 2008 with a degree in Radio/TV & Media Productions and a minor in Psychology. It was at WZIP & ZTV where Aaron developed a passion for radio especially Sports Radio. While attending the University of Akron you could hear Aaron on Sundays doing the "Sports Power Talk" program. AUDIO Zavac: Thompson Signs, Cavs Ready To Go

After a long wait, Tristan Thompson is now back in the fold for the Wine and Gold.

Dave Zavac from Fear the Sword joined Brad Russell in the Average Sports Show to talk about how the 5-year-$82 million deal got done and now that the band is back together, the Cavaliers can make another deep run resulting in a Larry O'Brien trophy.

Thompson made his mark defensively, with his tenacious rebounding an determined defense, especially in the playoffs. Team leader LeBron James, who shares the same agent as Thompson, has said numerous times how important the Toronto native is to the success of the Cavaliers moving forward.

The Cavaliers will tip off the regular season against the Chicago Bulls. Coverage begins at 7:30pm on 1590 WAKR.

AUDIO Zips' Men & Women Ready For Hoops

The Akron Zips men's and women's basketball teams are getting ready for the 2015-16 season with the expectation of being competitive in the MAC.

The teams held their annual Media Day on the campus of the University of Akron inside the Student Union.

Men's basketball coach Keith Dambrot said his team is capable of playing with anyone in the country.

"We've got an experienced team, we shoot the ball well, and we're big and strong, so I have high expectations," Dambrot said.

Akron returns four starters from last year's 21-14 campaign including seniors Pat Forsythe, Jake Kretzer, and Reggie McAdams.

On the women's side, Jodi Kest has her team prepared for the grind that is the regular season in the MAC. Her key players include seniors Anita Brown, Megan Barilla, and DiAndra Gibson, along with junior Hannah Plybon.

Kest says the program is making serious strides, and it all starts with working hard on the practice floor and studying the game.

"I think we have very good players," she says. "We don't have great size, and that scares me, so we have to stay healthy and outwork teams."

The Zips' women's basketball team is coming off a 22-9 season in 2014-15 and an appearance in the WNIT.

AUDIO Scott Petrak Talking Manziel, Browns

The Cleveland Browns have had their struggles as of late. One particular Brown has been under fire as of late...again.

Scott Petrak from the Elyria Chronicle Telegram joined the Sam Bourquin Show Tuesday to talk about the latest incident involving Browns backup quarterback Johnny Manziel.

Petrak says his thought on the Manziel story is that discipline is still possible after the alleged incident involving his girlfriend. Speculation is out there that Manziel will either be traded or released in the near future.

"The Browns are going to follow the league's lead on this situation, and we'll see what happens after that," Petrak said.

The Browns will travel to St. Louis to take on the Rams this Sunday.

AUDIO Embick, UA Ready For Sparty

The University of Akron men's soccer team is up to their winning ways once again, and they will look to continue on the good path as they prepare to face Michigan State on Wednesday.

Head Coach Jared Embick joined the Sam Bourquin Show to talk about his team heading into their showdown with Sparty.

Embick said the Spartans are a good test for his club, especially as the team is riding a six-game winning streak.

"We have a good balance between our attack and our defense," Embick said. "We're in a nice groove, we've just found the right combination that gives us a good flow on both sides of the ball."

The Zips, who are #5 in the country, will square off with the Spartans from Infocision Stadium-Cub Cadet Field at 7 p.m.

AUDIO Vassalotti: Athletic Compliance A Top Priority

The Akron Public Schools are looking at implementing a new plan to ensure 100% compliance with the OHSAA regulations.

This proactive approach stems from a ruling during the 2014-15 school year when the OHSAA had determined the APS committed infractions as it relates to eligibility.

APS Athletic Director Joe Vassalotti joined the Sam Bourquin Show Monday to talk about the plan and how to better educate parents, student-athletes, and others about the eligibility rules.

"We want to be transparent and do things right here and follow the bylaws of the OHSAA as exactly they should be."

Vassalotti says that among other items, building athletic directors will be checking eligibility earlier, as well as making sure student-athletes grade point average is where it should be.

He says by being 100% compliant, student athletes get the concept of doing things the right way.

"We need to follow through to make sure all paperwork is turned in in a timely manner, and ultimately we want them out there competing with their teammates."
