Stow Man Guilty Of Murder

Written by

A guilty verdict in a 30-year old case makes it unlikely that a Stow man will ever live outside of prison.

A Summit County Common Pleas Court jury returned guilty verdicts against Scott Purk, 53, on charges of murder and tampering with evidence. Purk murdered his wife, Margaret Purk in 1985. She was days away from delivering a baby when her body was found hanging in their apartment. It was considered a suicide but new evidence emerged in 2009, resulting in the exhumation of Margaret Purk's body and a revised ruling that her death was actually a homicide.

The jury believed that Scott Purk killed his pregnant wife and successfully made it appear to be suicide - almost.

Purk is already serving a 28-year sentence for setting his house on fire for insurance money, then a neighbor's house to divert attention away from him.

He'll be sentenced on the murder charge next week.
