Akron Woman Charged After Hitting Officer With Mini-Van

Written by

An Akron woman who hit a Tallmadge police officer Saturday with a min-van, after she reportedly was stealing in a grocery store, has been arrested.

The Tallmadge police said, the police officer confronted 47-year-old Yolanda DeBruce about the alleged theft in the parking lot of the grocery store located in the 200 block of West Avenue.

She then hit the officer with her car trying to escape. The officer fired a round that did not hit DeBruce.

DeBruce is charged with Aggravated Robbery and Felonious Assault on a officer and a number of lesser charges.

Police said the officer was treated and released at an area hospital.

She's been booked in Summit County Jail and will await a court appearance in Stow Municipal Court on Monday.

The officer is on paid administrative leave which is standard procedure following a use of deadly force, police said.
