UPDATE Officer Involved Shooting In Kenmore

There are some new details in that officer-involved shooting Monday afternoon in Kenmore.

WKYC Channel 3 reports that a Humane Society officer was in his van making a phone call at about 2 PM on 18th Street Southwest, when police say a man came out and attacked the van window with a shovel, then attacked the humane officer in the stomach with a knife.

Police say the 33 year-old man then threw a barbell into the van window.

Akron police got to the scene and say the man was still holding and refusing to drop the knife, even after being tazed. The man was then shot in the stomach.

Injuries to both the Humane Society officer and the suspect are described as serious but not life threatening.

Charges are pending.

(Earlier coverage) Akron police are reportedly on the scene of a shooting involving an Akron officer in Kenmore this afternoon.

Cleveland.com reports that it happened at about 2 PM at 18th Street SW and Chandler Avenue.

The man shot by an officer was taken to a hospital, and his condition is not known.

Not much else is known about the shooting at this time.

Many officers are on scene, including police chief James Nice.
