(U.S. Marshal's Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force, news release) Yesterday, at approximately 11:30pm, the U.S. Marshal's Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force-Canton Division arrested 35 year old Anitaun Harris. Harris was wanted by the U.S. Marshals Service and the Adult Parole Authority for a parole violation. Harris' original charge was robbery. Harris was also a person of interest in a homicide that occurred in Canton on April 27th.

During the early morning hours on the 27th, Canton Police were called to Hooch's Bar located at 1533 Cleveland Ave SW. after receiving a shots fired call. When police arrived, they found a male had been shot several times. The victim died shortly after from his wounds.

During the investigation, task force officers developed information that Harris was staying with a female at the Hillview Apartments located near the 1800 block of 6th St. NE in Canton. Task force officers surrounded the building and knocked on the door of the apartment Harris was believed to be staying in. After several minutes, Harris opened the door and surrendered without incident. Harris was transported to the Stark County Jail. A firearm was also recovered from the apartment.
U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott said, "Harris was just another example of the type of criminal we strive to get off the street. Even though his warrant was for a parole violation, he had a violent criminal history and the community is safer with him behind bars."
