APD Shooting Of Attacker Ruled Justifiable Force

Written by

Prosecutors say an Akron police officer used justifiable force in the shooting of a man who attacked a Humane Society officer in his vehicle in Kenmore in March.

And that man, who pled guilty last month in the attack, has been sentenced to six years in prison.

33 year-old McCullen Webb used a shovel to attack Humane Society officer Timothy Harland, then cut him with a knife. Webb also used a barbell to smash the windshield of Harland's vehicle.

An Akron police officer shot Webb after he refused to drop his knife, and a taser was used to no effect.
