Would-Be Robber Sentenced In Shooting Death

Written by

A man involved in an attempted robbery when the other robber was shot and killed after fleeing the victim's home has been sentenced.

A visiting judge sentenced 38 year-old Terry Tart to nine years in prison.

He pled guilty in August to a charge of involuntary manslaughter with a gun specification.

Last August, Tart and Marcus Glover tried to rob David Hillis at his Akron home when Hillis shot Glover in the head from his front porch, after a confrontation over drugs.

Hillis has already pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter.

(Summit County Prosecutor's Office, news release) Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh announced today that visiting Judge Richard Reinbold sentenced Terry Tart, 38, of Doty Drive in Akron, to nine years in prison.

On August 4, 2016, Tart pled guilty to the following charge:

Involuntary Manslaughter with a Gun Specification – a felony of the 1st degree

In the afternoon of August 7, 2015, Tart and Marcus Glover attempted to rob David Hillis at gunpoint at Hillis' Akron home. At today's sentencing, Tart stated he punched Hillis and knocked him to the floor after a confrontation over drugs. Tart and Glover then ran off. Hillis opened fire from his front porch with his own gun. Glover was about 70 yards away and no longer on Hillis' property when he was shot in the head and died.

Hillis pled guilty to Voluntary Manslaughter on August 17, 2016. Judge Reinbold is scheduled to sentence Hillis on November 16, 2016 at 11am.
