Winter appears to be far from over as we in Northeast Ohio were brutally reminded this week. 

One hopeful sign that perhaps the worst is behind us: the National Weather Service's Winter Weather Advisory expiration was moved up from 8 p.m. Wednesday to 4 p.m. and forecasters call for the snow to taper off by mid-afternoon. 

But that doesn't mean the cold is going anywhere. The high temperature for Wednesday is only 27* and was already reached by noon. Factor in the wind chill and some areas could be hit with what feels like -2*, according to the National Weather Service. 

Road conditions progressively got better throughout the morning commute Wednesday, but Brent Kovacs with ODOT tells the Ray Horner Morning Show that trucks will continue to treat the roadways overnight into early Thursday morning to prevent any freezing when temperatures continue to drop. 

For those who may not have anywhere to go when the cold bites as it has this week, Haven of Rest Ministries reminds all residents that their doors are open. They have enacted "Code Zero" and are accomodating their facility at 175 E. Market Street. 

Highland School District is looking for input from local residents on what to do with four aging buildings in the district. 

Three elementary schools and one middle school are due for some major upgrades, as they've been for a long time; one as long as 95 years. The schools are listed below: 

• Sharon Elementary, 95 years old.
• Granger Elementary, 88 years.
• Hinckley Elementary, 68 years.
• Highland Middle School, 58 years

Dominion East Ohio customers in Barberton may be getting calls in the next few weeks from the company letting them know their gas may have to be turned off for a few hours, and inspections done of gas lines on their property.

That, because the company is starting a $1.84 mmillion dollar project, which will replace nearly 18 thousand feet of bare steel pipeline, with corrosion-resistant, plastic pipe. The project gets underway this week.

Dominion East Ohio is investing $1.84 million this summer in Barberton to replace 17,935 feet of bare steel pipeline -- with corrosion-resistant, medium-density plastic pipe. The work area includes East State and 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th streets, and Grace, Homewood, Grandview, Fairview, Taft, Wilson, Harding and Highland avenues. Construction is scheduled to begin March 13, with completion scheduled for July 1, weather permitting.

The pipelines slated for replacement were originally installed between 1926 and 1955. The project is part of Dominion East Ohio’s overall Pipeline Infrastructure Replacement program, launched in mid-2008. The $4 billion, 25-year project will involve the eventual replacement of more than 5,500 miles of the company’s 22,000-mile pipeline system.

During construction, the company or its contractors will need to turn off natural gas service to 308 customers for a short time, generally one to three hours, for replacing service lines. The service lines connect the Dominion main line to the customer’s home or business. As part of PIR, Dominion will assume responsibility for the service line, which formerly had been a customer responsibility.

The company will attempt to notify affected customers 24 to 48 hours prior to this to arrange access. The company may need to perform additional work at customers’ homes or businesses, at no charge, including:
· Inspecting and testing any interior service lines
· Verifying the reading on an inside meter
· Replacing the service line, which delivers natural gas from the main line to the gas meter
· Changing the gas meter

Dominion East Ohio personnel, or a qualified contractor working for Dominion East Ohio, will relight customer appliances once work is complete. If a problem is discovered with any of the house lines, which run from the gas meter to the natural gas appliances, it is the responsibility of the property owner to have the repairs made by a qualified plumber or contractor.

Once the work is complete, restoration will begin as soon as weather permits, including sidewalks, driveways and approaches. Typical yard restoration is limited to grading and seeding.

The victim of a deadly shooting of a bouncer at Game 7 Bar and Grill on South Arlington Rd. in Akron Saturday night has been identified as 33-year-old Daniel Turner. 

Initially, Thomas Dunn III, 19, and Anthony Cox, 21, were charged with Obstruction of Justice, but the charges have since increased. Dunn is charged with Murder and Cox charged with Complicity to Commit Murder. 

Saturday's incident is the second deadly shooting at Game 7 in just over a month, and now residents are calling on local officials to do something about it. 

Back on January 28th, 2017, 23-year-old D'Cortez Taylor was found shot to death in his car that was parked in the Game 7 parking lot. 

Residents of the area have called on Akron City Council to do something about the area. Councilwoman Tara Mosely-Samples is suggesting making that area a "Dry Zone," or free of alcohol. She tells WKYC-TV that she's not sure if that's the final answer, but she thinks it could help the situation. 

Not many details are available just yet, but traffic was tied up and I-71 South closed at State Route 3 in Medina County for roughly four hours early Tuesday morning. 

According to multiple police reports, a chase began in Strongsville after a white passenger van didn't pull over along Pearl Road when instructed to around 2:30 a.m. A chase lead police to I-71 where a Strongsville Police Officer reportedly opened fire, hitting the suspect who was driving, and then causing the subsequent crash at 71-South and SR 3 near I-271. 

Multiple police units from surrounding cities and counties replied, including Medina City Police, Medina County Sheriff's Office, and Strongsville Police. Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation has since taken over the investigation. 

BCI has reported that in addition to the suspect, who was driving the van and was killed at the scene, a woman and three children were also in the van. It is not known the relation between the suspect and the others, nor have their ages been released.

Akron Police are looking for help for a suspect they say punched and then shot a man he was arguing with Saturday morning. 

It happened around 2 a.m. inside a home on West Crosier St. According to the police report, John R. Meeks, 28, was involved in an argument with the 41-year-old victim. It turned physical and Meeks allegedly punched the victim in the face. Then, police say, Meeks pulled out a handgun and shot the victim "several times" in the abdomen. Meeks then fled the season. 

The victim was later transported to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital with potential life-threatening injuries. There's been no update on the victim's status. 

Meeks is charged with aggravated robbery and felonious assault. Anyone with information on his whereabouts are asked to not approach him and to call 911 immediately. 

Cleveland Indians single-game tickets went on sale to the public Monday and within minutes the Home Opener at Progressive Field against the Chicago White Sox on April 11th was sold out! 

The Indians issued a press release shortly after 10 a.m. when the tickets went on sale at Indians.com saying the game was sold out. They also mentioned that tickets to later series, such as the Tigers, Blue Jays, and Yankees series, were selling quickly. 

Just before noon Monday, StubHub.com, the after-market ticket website had standing room only tickets for the home opener going for $88, normally $13. 

The season opener for the Indians is April 3, against the Rangers in Texas. 

The Ohio Supreme Court stayed Dawud El Spaulding's execution, that was scheduled for 2021, pending appeals.

Spaulding was sentenced to death for the 2011 killings of his ex-girlfriend Erica Singleton, 28, and Earnest Thomas, 31, of Akron.

At the time of her murder, Singleton had a protection order against Spaulding, who had stalked and terrorized the woman before killing her and her boyfriend, Thomas.

Ohio State Representative Greta Johnson (D-Akron) announced Thursday that she'll be resigning her office to join Summit County Executive Ilene Shapiro's office, effective the end of March. 

The press release states that Johnson will take on the role of Deputy Law Director for Summit County. 

Johnson was elected to the State House in 2014 and took office January 2015. 

In a statement release from Johnson's office, she said of the position, “Ilene has been a mentor to me for many years and I look forward to the opportunity to be a part of her team. I am excited to join in her vision for Summit County and I will bring my skills as an attorney and an advocate for working class people to the executive’s office."

She'll officially start her new role on March 27, 2017.  

The Summit County Medical Examiner has released the identity of the recycling worker who died on the job in Akron last week. 

On February 22nd, Eric Russell, 24, reportedly became trapped inside a baler machine at Greenstar Recycling at 1535 Exeter Road in Akron. 

It has been ruled an accident. An investigation into how it happened is ongoing.
