The Office of Ohio State Auditor Dave Yost has released the Village of Lakemore in Summit County from fiscal emergency status that they've been under for over six years. 

Back on August 31, 2010, the village was placed under fiscal emergency due to five aggregate deficit fund balances totaling $830,450, and a treasury fund deficit of $584,532, as of May 31 of the same year. 

The status was lifted because of the efforts of the village to erase more than $1,000,000 in combined debt between the general fund and the treasury fund. In the press release, Auditor Dave Yost said, "After a six-year battle, I'm pleased to see the village has finally defeated its deficits. This is a significant moment because it represents a fresh start for the community."

Village of Lakemore Released from Fiscal Emergency

Columbus – Auditor of State Dave Yost today released the Village of Lakemore (Summit County) from fiscal emergency, a status it held for more than six years.

The village was placed in fiscal emergency on Aug. 31, 2010 due to five aggregate deficit fund balances totaling $839,450, in addition to a treasury fund deficit of $584,532, as of May 31, 2010.

“After a six-year battle, I’m pleased to see the village has finally defeated its deficits,” Auditor Yost said. “This is a significant moment because it represents a fresh start for the community.”

Among the steps taken to restore fiscal stability, the village erased an $800,000 general fund deficit, as well as a $584,532 treasury fund deficit, through a 50 percent income tax credit reduction. According to the village, the tax credit will be reinstated following its release from fiscal emergency.

Transfers from the general fund eliminated another $197,000 in deficit balances in the police disability and pension, police facility, capital improvement, and emergency medical services (EMS) funds. Voters also approved a 4.25 mill five-year fire and EMS levy on Nov. 3, 2015, enabling the village to move fire and EMS expenditures from the general fund to the levy fund.

Additional actions taken by the village included curtailing expenditures across the board and removing the village administrator position to generate an extra $60,000 in savings. 

The village also had to satisfy the following requirements to be terminated from fiscal emergency:

1. Effectively implement a financial accounting and reporting system in accordance with Section 118.10(A) of the Ohio Revised Code; 
2. Correct or eliminate all fiscal emergency conditions and prevent new ones from occurring;
3. Meet the objectives of the financial plan; and
4. Prepare a five-year forecast in accordance with standards issued by the Auditor of State; the opinion expressed by the Auditor’s office is “nonadverse.”

UPDATE: 

A Summit County man was charged in federal court with possession with intent to distribute drugs after he was arrested with more than 24 pounds of cocaine, law enforcement officials said.

Jerry J. Davis, Jr. 35, of New Franklin, was pulled over for speeding on Nov. 1 in Akron. He crashed after attempting to flee police. Davis then ran and jumped off the bridge at East Miller Avenue and Broadway Street, but was arrested near where he jumped from the bridge, according to an affidavit filed in U.S. District Court.

Officers searched Davis’ vehicle and found 11 kilograms of cocaine. They also found a loaded Glock .40-caliber pistol with an extended magazine, according to the complaint.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Aaron Howell following an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Akron Police Department and the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

11.2 kilos of cocaine, roughly a million dollars worth, now off the streets after a single suspect was arrested.

He was seen leaving a business area at Kenmore and 16th street, an area known for drug activity.

He fled in his SUV, crashed near Lake and Old Main St., and then ran. THEN, he jumped 30 feet from an overpass.

He suffered minor injuries. Police say he also had a loaded glock.

Akron Police Chief James Nice says this wasn't a Drug Task Force, but a specialized group targeting this specific area of high drug activity.

Nice says this specific group was made up of a sergeant and six or seven officers; and with the amount of drug activity in Akron and the area of Kenmore and 16th, the sacrifices to regular patrol were well worth it.

The MLB has announced that former Indians starting pitcher Dennis "El Presidente" Martinez will throw out the first pitch for Game 6 of the World Series at Progressive Field Tuesday night. 

Martinez's 23-year-career included three with the Indians between 1994 and 1996. He started game 2 of the World Series for the Tribe against the Atlanta Braves. 

In 2012, Martinez was named one of the top 100 Cleveland Indians in franchise history. 

Game 6 of the 2016 World Series between the Indians and Cubs is scheduled for Tuesday at 8:08. 

The Summit County Sheriff's Office is conducting two OVI Checkpoints in Akron and Coventry Township. 

In a press release, the Sheriff's Office says the Akron locaiton is 750 S Main St. between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. The second location in Coventry Township will be located at 3680 Manchester Rd. between 12 a.m. and 2 a.m. Saturday. They say the checkpoints will be in conjunction with nearby "saturation patrols" to aggressively combat drunk driving. 

The Sheriff's Office is encouraging those who plan on having any alcohol to drink to designate a sober driver or find another ride home. 

The Traffic Bureau of the Akron Police are investigating after they say an elderly man was hit and killed by a passing car along I-77 Southbound near the Vernon Odom Boulevard exit Wednesday afternoon. 

According to the report, the 87-year-old man parked his car along the side of the highway and got out so that he could retrieve the license plate that had fallen off his car. It's unclear what side of the highway he was parked along, but the report states that he was hit by an oncoming Nissan Altima in the far left lane. He died instantly, police say. 

The highway was closed for a couple of hours due to the accident. Police do not believe speed nor alcohol factored into the accident. The investigation is ongoing and the victim's name has not been released pending the autopsy. 

Akron Police are looking for a suspect who was very clearly caught on CCTV breaking into the St. Vincent-St. Mary Field House and making off with a number of items. 

It happened back on October 16th, at 12:30 in the morning. Police have just released the video (below) and are asking anyone with information to call Detective Anthony at 330-375-2490. 

Tuesday is the day: Game 1 of the World Series in Cleveland featuring the Cleveland Indians and the Chicago Cubs at Progressive Field. 

As any Indians fan can tell you, the team has seen its share of injuries, especially in the later part of the season. One of those injuries was starting pitcher Danny Salazar. He hasn't pitched for the Tribe since leaving the game back on September 9th against the Minnesota Twins with a strained right forearm. 

On Tuesday, ahead of the start of the World Series, the Indians released their official World Series roster. The good news; it included Right-Handed Pitcher Danny Salazar. To make room for Salazar, the Indians removed RHP Cody Anderson from the WS roster. Over the past weekend, Indians Manager Terry Francona said his starting pitching rotation for the World Series is "to be announced" following Game 3. Corey Kluber gets the start in Game 1 Tuesday, and Games 2 and 3 are to be decided between Trevor Bauer and Josh Tomlin. Francona said, of Bauer who is healing from a finger injury that left him an early-exit in Game 3 of the ALCS against the Blue Jays, he wants to give Bauer as much time as possible.

Akron Police are asking the public's help finding suspects in an Aggravated Robbery that happened earlier in October. 

According to police, on October 7, 2016, two men entered Bel Air Motors on Exchange St. One pulled out a gun and demanded money and then struck the victim over the head with the pistol and him several times. 

The two men got away with a couple thousand dollars in cash.

Alliance Police are asking the public's help finding a fugitive wanted on multiple drug charges. 

According to reports, Celenia C. Robinson has multiple arrest warrants out on her, including alleged escape and drugs. 

She is listed at 4 feet, 11 inches tall, about 115 pounds, and police say she was born in 1997, though haven't released her birthdate. Police have reason to believe that she may be headed to, or is currently hiding out in Sebring, Ohio. 

Anyone with information is asked to call Alliance PD at 330-821-3131. 

The Cleveland Indians have announced the official World Series Watch Parties at Progressive Field for road games 3, 4, and potential game 5. 

Tickets are $5 for general admission and $24 for the Club Lounge which includes food. Tickets go on sale at Indians.com at 12 p.m. Monday, October 24.
