At about 10:16 p.m Sunday, two Uniontown Police Officers responded to a domestic violence call at 10599 Lela Avenue NW. When the officers arrived, the suspect, 28-year-old Ryan Probst opened fire on them. Both officers returned fire, killing the suspect, but not before Sergeant David White with UPD was hit four times.

After the shooting, the officers called for back-up and the Stark County Sheriff's office, along with other Uniontown Police officers arrived on the scene. Sgt. White was transported to an Akron-area hospital. He had surgery at about 5:30 a.m. Monday and has since been listed in stable condition. 

During a press conference Monday morning, Stark County Sheriff George Maier noted that this was not Probst's first encounter with the law. He'd been arrested for violent offenses in the past and had a long RAP sheet. Sheriff Maier added that this wasn't the first domestic incident that they were called for at the home on Lela. 

Both Sgt. Smith and the other officer involved in the shooting are on paid administrative leave while the investigation continues. 

Sgt. Smith is a 25-year veteran of law enforcement and had been with the Uniontown Police Department since 2002. 

Just before 5 p.m. Monday, Akron Police attempted to pull over a Kia on Chittenden Street in Akron after they noticed the driver make several traffic violations. The driver refused to pull over and continued onto McKinley Street, eventually pulling into a driveway. Then, the driver fled on foot through backyards. 

Officers chased the suspect on foot and noticed he was carrying a gun. During the chase, officers repeatedly told the man to drop the weapon. He did not and continued to run.

Eventually, the suspect was cornered by police in a driveway in the 600 block of Roscoe Avenue. Again, officers commanded the man to drop his weapon. He did not and an officer fired one shot, striking the suspect in the torso. 

The suspect, identified as Delon J. McGill of Akron, was secured in handcuffs and taken to Akron City Hospital where he was listed in stable condition.  

The officer involved in the shooting, a four year veteran of the department, has been placed on paid administrative leave, per departmental procedure. McGill has been charged with carrying a concealed weapon and weapons under disability. He is still in the hospital under observation. 

There are some new details in that officer-involved shooting Monday afternoon in Kenmore.

WKYC Channel 3 reports that a Humane Society officer was in his van making a phone call at about 2 PM on 18th Street Southwest, when police say a man came out and attacked the van window with a shovel, then attacked the humane officer in the stomach with a knife.

Police say the 33 year-old man then threw a barbell into the van window.

Akron police got to the scene and say the man was still holding and refusing to drop the knife, even after being tazed. The man was then shot in the stomach.

Injuries to both the Humane Society officer and the suspect are described as serious but not life threatening.

Charges are pending.

(Earlier coverage) Akron police are reportedly on the scene of a shooting involving an Akron officer in Kenmore this afternoon.

Cleveland.com reports that it happened at about 2 PM at 18th Street SW and Chandler Avenue.

The man shot by an officer was taken to a hospital, and his condition is not known.

Not much else is known about the shooting at this time.

Many officers are on scene, including police chief James Nice.

An Akron police officer shot and wounded a man who allegedly tried to back into cops with their own cruiser during a chase Friday afternoon.

Officers responded to a call on Carneige Avenue to check on 22 year-old David Duffield, who was possibly suicidal and armed with a handgun. The Portage County Sheriff's Department also had a warrant out for his arrest for violating a protection order.

When they got there they saw Duffield running westbound on Stanwood Avenue, leading officers on a foot chase through the back yards.

Police say Duffield later got into one of the police cruisers near Ivor Avenue, put it in reverse, and tried to back into one of the officers. Another officer fired rounds at Duffield, hitting him in the upper shoulder. While still in reverse , he drove over the curb, striking a fence and a fire hydrant.

Duffield was transported to Akron General Medical Center, with non-life threatening injuries.

The officer involved in the shooting is a 16 year veteran with APD. He will be placed on paid administrative leave.
