An Akron woman who hit a Tallmadge police officer Saturday with a min-van, after she reportedly was stealing in a grocery store, has been arrested.

The Tallmadge police said, the police officer confronted 47-year-old Yolanda DeBruce about the alleged theft in the parking lot of the grocery store located in the 200 block of West Avenue.

She then hit the officer with her car trying to escape. The officer fired a round that did not hit DeBruce.

DeBruce is charged with Aggravated Robbery and Felonious Assault on a officer and a number of lesser charges.

Police said the officer was treated and released at an area hospital.

She's been booked in Summit County Jail and will await a court appearance in Stow Municipal Court on Monday.

The officer is on paid administrative leave which is standard procedure following a use of deadly force, police said.

Macedonia police says an elderly couple was treated at an hospital with critical injuries, after being hit by a car Saturday

The 79 year-old man and 72-year old woman were crossing the street at Waters and Route 82 at about 10:30a.m. when they were hit by a car driven by an elderly woman.

The two were taken to MetroHealth Medical Center.

It's not known if the woman was charged or cited for the accident.

Police are investigating what exactly happened.

Daniel Kovacevic, the man who's been walking around Akron with a rifle on his back, and more than a dozen of gun-activists held a gun rally Sunday to have a conversation about the second amendment and their right to bear arms.

"This is the first time that I've ever done an advocate march," Kovacevic said. "I'm here because I believe that if each side knows some more about each other; it will be a positive thing. That's what I want. I want this to be positive."

Kovacevic caused an uproar when he was seen in Akron Monday carrying an assault rifle on his back. Kovacevic and the more than a dozen gun-activists walked from High Street down to Deone Slater's Kangaroo Kutz barbershop across from Infocision stadium on E. Exchange Street.

Kovacevic said he did not know he would gain this amount of attention nor did he anticipate upsetting anyone.

"I knew that taking the rifle with me would cause more concern than just having the pistol," Kovacevic said. "I had no idea that it would provoke so much raw emotion."

Deone Slater confronted Kovacevic about him carrying his rifle around the city and in the vicinity of his business. Slater and Kovacevic's encounter was caught on video and has been shared on social media over thousands of times and has nearly a million views.

Slater spoke to Daniel Kovacevic and other gun-activists touting their rifles on the walk (with their gun licenses) about why he has a problem with people carrying rifles around the community of Akron. Slater said he's for people exercising their second amendment right, but with high-profiled shootings across the country, he said it's unnecessary to carry a rifle and cause panic.

"I don't care about [Kovacevic] carrying a gun," Slater said. "I'm for carrying guns. You don't need a big gun that will shoot the moon out of the sky. We don't need that."

Jeff Asberry has had his gun license since 2008 and joined the rally to support not only Kovacevic, but also every gun owner. He said the rally has been a success because people are having a substantive conversation about guns.

"Everybody is talking and laughing and having a good time," Asberry said. "Things were a little contentious it seemed like at the very beginning, but once we actually met each other and started talking, it seems like everybody is getting along rather well."

Criminals will always be able to get a hold of a gun, he said. For that very reason, he got his gun license to protect himself and his family.

Slater said his exchange with Kovacevic had nothing to do with race. He said he would have stopped anybody walking down the street with a gun as big as the one Kovacevic had on his back.

"I don't have a problem with color," Slater said. "I got a problem with somebody that is bringing raucous to the community."

Kovacevic says it will be up to him to decide if he wants to stop openly carrying the rifle on his back.

At the end of the rally, Slater and the group of activists were able to shake hands and felt that it was a conversation that needed to be had.

Businesses Celebrate Small Business Saturday

Today is Small Business Saturday and the small mom and pop shops are capitalizing on the increased number of business.

"You get people especially during the holiday season purchasing gifts for people who don't even know we exist, so that's how we expand and we grow."

Angela Roloff, general manger of Rubber City Clothing, a business located in downtown Akron that sells Akron apparel, said community is one of the advantages of being a small business. She said it's being able to communicate and connect with customers that's one of the best parts.

"Being closer with the community, Roloff said. "Being able to give them what they want and not have to present it to a round-table before you give them what they want."

American Express has been credited with coming up with the concept Small Business Saturday, after seeing small business suffer from the Black Friday bargains.

Marge Klein, owner of the Peanut Shoppe that's been a fixture in the Akron community for over 80 years, said in order to have a successful small business, you have to be able to answer to what customers want.

"It's up to you and your employees and co-workers, to be able to keep a store going without having to answer to anybody, but your customers."

Shawn Ritchie, of Ritchie's Sporting Goods in Tallmadge, said people tend to think they can find cheaper deals at bigger, more established stores, but he said that's not always the case.

"They think they can get a better deal with the big box stores. You go online and I tell them all the time; I'll match anybody's prices of any other big box store because it's going to be the same price as mine."

The first day of Small Business Saturday was November 27, 2010. It encourages people to shop and support small and local businesses.

In 2014, an estimated $14.3 billion was spent on Small Business Saturday, according to American Express.

Akron Welcomes Santa at Annual Parade

It sure does feel like Christmas.

The 29th annual "Welcome Santa Parade" kicked off in Downtown Akron on Saturday.

The parade started at 11:00 am and featured over 75 units including marching bands, floats, costume characters, dance groups and area organizations.

"I was happy to be in the parade," St. Sebastian's Arabelle Loyed said.

There were thousands of spectators along Main Street in front of Lock 3 to watch old St. Nick come to town. Spectators will also be treated to a mini concert from Nuance, an 18-member, all-male a cappella group from The University of Akron, along with other activities.

Arabelle's mother Marie said it was her kids first time being in the parade. She said they had a lot of fun and she enjoyed it as well.

"I think it's great. They enjoyed playing in the band. They enjoyed marching in it. Even though it was cold and wet."

Marie said it's different as a parent when Christmas rolls around. She said it makes her happy seeing the smile on her kids faces during this time of year.

"A lot of fun. I get to see family and get to see the kids enjoy Christmas. So it's that's the best part."

As for what's on Arabelle's Christmas list, she said she wants a Maestro toy from Santa that plays beats, while having to match the colors it plays.

The parade's media sponsors were our very own radio stations WAKR-AM, WONE-FM and WQMX-FM. WAKR's Jasen Sokol of the "Jasen Sokol Show" emceed the event.

The Hudson explorers (11-2) are vying for a Division II state championship, but the Perry panthers (11-2) are standing in their way. Hudson Head coach Ron Wright joined the Sam Bourquin show to talk about the match up against perry and what his team has to do in order to win. Hudson will match up against Perry at Solon's Stewart field at 7:30p.m.

The Ohio State Buckeyes' 23 game win streak was snapped by the Michigan State Spartans last week, in a 17-14 game decided by a last second field goal. The Buckeyes will now have to lick their wounds and face the team "Up North". The 100-year old rivalry will be renewed this coming Saturday at 3:30p.m. in the big house. Former Buckeye Bobby Carpenter joined the Sam Bourquin show to talk about the mentality of the team heading into the game Saturday. He said the team does not want to lose this game after what happened last and added the coaches should not "over analyze" when preparing as well.

There are 28 teams vying for an opportunity to play for a state championship in Columbus and among them are locals Hudson, Archbishop Hoban, Canton Central Catholic, Perry, Stow and Mogadore.

The Ohio High School Athletic Association released the fourth round playoff pairings and sites Sunday and the games are slated to be played Friday and Saturday.

The Stow Bulldogs (12-0) are one of five teams making their first final four appearance. They'll match up against St. Edward (12-1) in Parma on Saturday at 7:30 p.m..

Canton Central Catholic (9-3) is coming off of a 33-6 victory over Columbiana Crestview. Canton Central Catholic will compete against Milan Edison at Wooster Triway Jack Miller Field on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Hudson (11-2) is coming off their best season in school history with a 13-1 record. The Explorers will look to upend Perry (11-2), as they will face off in Solon at Stewart Field on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Mogadore (12-1) is no stranger to playoff football. The team is making its 17th final four appearance. The Wildcats will take on Danville Friday at Orrville's Red Rider Stadium at 7:30 p.m..

Hoban (12-1) won the Division VII regional title Friday, after they defeated St.Vincent St. Mary for the second time this season by a score of 24-21. Hoban will play Zanesville in the state semi-final at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 2015 OHSAA football playoffs have now reached the fourth round, with 28 teams remaining for this weekend's state semifinals and the opportunity to play for a state championship. The fourth round also marks the regional finals for Division I, which has only two regions. Neutral sites were selected by the OHSAA on Sunday for the 14 games around the state this Friday and Saturday.

Playoff Format and Schedule
Unless otherwise noted, Divisions II, III, V and VII will play at 7:30 p.m. on Fridays during the playoffs, while Divisions I, IV and VI will play at 7 p.m. on Saturdays.

Ticket Information
Fans are encouraged to buy their playoff tickets in advance at the participating schools, which keep a percentage of the revenue. For state semifinal playoff games, tickets are $8 presale and $10 at the gate. All-session ticket books are currently on sale for the state championship games Dec. 3, 4 and 5 at http://go.osu.edu/OHSAAFB. All-session ticket books in the club level, which are the chair-back seats on the west side of the stadium, are $105 each (good for all seven games) and also permit indoor access in the Huntington Club before, during and after each game. All-session reserved ticket books on the east side of the stadium, which don't include indoor access, are $84 each. Single game tickets will go on sale November 29 and cost $10 at the state finalist schools, or at the gate before each game for $15 (club level) and $12 (reserved).

Looking Ahead to the State Championships
The state championships are Dec. 3, 4 and 5 in Ohio Stadium in Columbus. Of the four divisions that play their playoff games on Friday nights (II, III, V and VII), one will be selected to play its state championship game on Thurs., Dec. 3. The other three will play their state championship games on Fri., Dec. 4. Divisions I, IV and VI will play their state championship games on Sat., Dec. 5. Specific game times will be announced on the OHSAA's twitter account (www.Twitter.com/OHSAASports) the Friday and Saturday nights of the semifinals (around 10:45 PM).

Five Schools Make First "Final Four" Appearance
Five schools are making their first trip to the state semifinals, including Stow-Munroe Falls (Div. I), Perrysburg (Div. II), Milan Edison (Div. V), Grandview Heights (Div. VI) and Fort Recovery (Div. VII). Edison, in fact, hadn't won a playoff game prior to this season. Fort Recovery had only one playoff win prior to this year, while Stow, Perrysburg and Grandview Heights all had just two playoff wins.

Schools Build on Impressive History
Several schools this weekend are adding another "final four" appearance to an already impressive resume. Chief among them are Mogadore (Div. VII), which is making its 17th appearance, and Steubenville (Div. IV), which is making its 16th appearance. Other semifinal regulars include Maria Stein Marion Local (Div. VI) making its 14th overall (fifth in a row and nine of last 10 years) and Coldwater (Div. V) making its 13th overall (seventh in a row). Trotwood-Madison (Div. III) is back for the sixth year in a row and Kirtland (Div. VI) is back for the fifth year in a row. Also noteworthy is Middletown Bishop Fenwick, which made eight semifinal appearances in the first 16 years of the playoffs (1972-1987), and is now back for the first time since then.

Compare and Contrast: Divisions II and IV
When the OHSAA expanded the football playoffs to seven divisions in 2013 and made Division I smaller (largest 72 schools in the state), one of the resulting effects was that many schools that used to be "small" Div. I schools were now in Div. II. That fact is evidenced again this year as the Div. II state semifinalists are all making their first or second appearance in the "final four." Compare that to the semifinalists in Div. IV, which have combined to make 42 appearances.

Information on Neutral Sites
There are many factors that go into determining playoff sites, such as quality of field surface, seating capacity, quality of lighting, size of locker rooms and their distance from field, press box size, parking spaces available, and a separate locker room for officials. After all those factors are taken into consideration, it must be confirmed that the site is available and willing to host a playoff game on the date needed. Not all sites are available when requested by the OHSAA.
