:17 - One of the big talking points in Akron these last few weeks has been a proposed ordinance to fine and even jail residents who have incessant barking dogs. Well, city council shot down Russ Neal’s proposal, and he joined Ray to discuss what’s next.

23:00 - The devastation continues in the gulf of Florida, as the panhandle looks to rebuild what was torn up from Michael. The tornado-like winds damaged the power structure and grids need to be rebuilt. Mark Durbin from FirstEnergy gave us some education on what needs to be done.

30:52 - The Browns came out flat in Sunday’s contest against the Los Angeles Chargers. What needs to be done to rectify both sides of the ball to get back to .500? Fred Greetham from the Orange & Brown Report gave his thoughts on the game and looked ahead to Sunday in Tampa.

:26 - A proposed ordinance in Akron City Council looks to crack down on barking dogs. Residents whose dogs won’t stop barking can receive a $100 and possible jail time. Some agree with this measure, and others, including Tara Samples who joined Ray, disagree.

7:36 - The council member who proposed the ordinance, Russ Neal, also came on with Ray.

16:52 - Tony Gotto is the head coach of the Barberton Magics, and he joined Ray to talk about his team. The Magics are 6-0 and they take on an improving 5-1 Ellet team this weekend.

21:02 - The MLB playoffs are all set, and the Cleveland Indians are set to take on the Houston Astros in the ALDS. Bob DiBiasio, VP for the Tribe, talked to Ray about how the Indians will fare against the defending world champs, as well as Bobby D meeting Wayne Newton out in Las Vegas.

31:55 - A quarter of the NFL season is in the books, and the Cleveland Browns have a record of 1-2-1 through four games. Fred Greetham from the Orange & Brown Report discussed the season so far, including the play of rookie starting quarterback Baker Mayfield.

A few weeks ago, Ward 4 councilman Russ Neal created a proposal for the city of Akron to distance themselves from Columbus Day. This news came around the time when Oberlin dropped Columbus Day in favor of Indigenous Peoples’ Day, though not everyone in Akron was as gun-ho about a potential change.

In fact, in the city council chambers, the topic and corresponding votes were divided among racial lines, with all of the black council members voting ‘yes’ to drop Columbus Day.

Though he understands Neal’s concerns, Ward 2 councilman Bruce Kilby voted ‘no’ on the measure. Kilby spoke on the Ray Horner Morning Show of the “contentious” atmosphere in the chambers, and how the measure appeared to be more divisive than helpful and progressive. Kilby says he does not mind instilling an Indigenous Peoples’ Day, but is not in favor of ditching Columbus Day, either.

Kilby also said he was glad they voted on the measure when they did so they can “put [the issue] to bed.” He feels racial lines in the Akron area have been “pretty good” when compared to other major cities, especially in recent memory.

Councilman Neal also joined the Ray Horner Morning Show to recap the meeting and vote. Neal believes the decision to retain Columbus Day in Akron is “disheartening,” but claims the discussion will continue.

A disagreement between the mayor and council came down Tuesday night over sewer bills and potential discounts for landlords. Both Mayor Dan Horrigan and Ward 4 councilman Russ Neal separately joined the Ray Horner Morning Show to bring up their arguments over these rates.

First, Mayor Horrigan explained his point of view on these particular utilities, acknowledging the difference between property owners and residents.

Councilman Neal, who has a background in real estate, shared his counterpoint.
