Springfield Teen Charged With Rape Again

Written by

A Springfield teen, who is a registered sex offender, has been charged with rape for the second time.

The Beacon Journal reports James Lane, 18, has been charged with rape of a child under age 13, but Lane is already a registered sex offender--not publicly listed-- for a sexual assault he committed when he was 15.

According to Ohio law, minors are not publicly listed, but are still required to register with their local sheriff's office.

The newspaper reports a 12-year-old told police in January that Lane sexually assaulted her in October. Initially, she did not tell police, but later told an officer what happened.

In June 2013, Lane, who was 15-years-old at the time, was accused of forcing an 11-year-old girl into a tent in her backyard, where he allegedly raped her. He was charged with rape and kidnapping. He was labeled a Tier III sex offender, by which he must register with his local sheriff's office every three months for the rest of his life.

Lane, who was arrested in late January, is awaiting trial and being held at the Summit County Jail on $250,000 bond.
