AUDIO Baker: Tom Benson HOF Stadium "Game Changer"

The curtain has been lifted on the 2017 NFL campaign and for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, a sparkling new stadium was dedicated to kick off the season.

Pro Football Hall of Fame President and CEO David Baker said Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium is truly a "game changer" not only for the Hall, but for the city of Canton.

"This is the finest small-venue NFLstadium in the world," Baker said.

The locker rooms each hold 105 people and the Club area holds 1,000 people. The press box is a new feature as well with great view lines of the playing field.

The 23,000 seat facility was dedicated Thursday morning and featured a statue of Saints owner Tom Benson, who contributed $11 million to the stadium project that now bears his name.

Baker was extremely appreciative of Benson's contribution to keeping football thriving in the Hall of Fame City.

"He felt that this was where the game of professional football began, and he thinks it should live forever in Canton," Baker explained.

Hall of Fame President David Baker said they are actively preparing for the NFL's 100th anniversary by building various amenites for the Johnson Controls Hall of Fame Village.

The venue will host not only football at the high school, collegiate and pro level, but concerts, and other entertainment options for as Baker puts it, " the next 100 years.

Koby Altman Introduced As Cavs' GM

The Cavaliers' offeseason has been anything but dull, and new General Manager Koby Altman addressed some of the pressing matters in Cleveland inlcuding Kyrie Irving's trade demands.

Altman was formally introduced at a press conference on Wednesday afternoon at Cleveland Clinic Courts. He has been with the Cleveland Cavaliers front office for the past five years, most recently as the Assistant GM.

Cavaliers' majority owner Dan Gilbert said he feels very confident in Koby's ability to take over in his new role.

"Koby's a special guy," Gilbert explained. "He knows basketball and he's a relationship guy, he's both book smart and street smart."

Altman takes over for the departed David Griffin, who served as the GM in Cleveland since the 2014-15 season.

Koby says despite reports of unrest within the organization, between players, etc,  things are fine in Cleveland.

"This thing is not broken, we are a very successful organization, and we're going to continue to drive for that success," he said.

AUDIO Zips Primed For 2017 Football Season

Football season is just around the corner and the Mid-American Conference got things started with their annual Media Day Wednesday at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton.

If you're wondering about the change in venue, it was moved from Detroit, where there's construction at Ford Field.

The Akron Zips are looking to get back to a bowl game, and sixth-year coach Terry Bowden discussed how the quarterback depth heading into 2017 helps his ballclub.

"That's why I say competition is the key," Bowden explained. "Tommy Woodson if he's healthy, he'll be hard to beat out, but we've got some good people in a position to compete for that starting position."

There's 5 scholarship quarterbacks heading into fall camp including last year's starter Tommy Woodson, who missed some time last year with injury.

Defensively, linebacker Ulysees Gilbert will be expected to bring leadership on the field this upcoming season for the Zips.

"Ulysees Gilbert is our leader by example, our leader by hard work, and leader by exceptional talent," Bowden said. "He speaks more with his actions than by his mouth."

Gilbert was named to the Nagurski watch list and led the team with another 100-plus tackle season in 2016.

Coach Bowden says he's confident about his team's chances this upcoming season, for him it comes down to playing hard and staying healthy.

Zips running back Warren Ball also discussed his excitement to get things going this football season.  A transfer from Ohio State, Ball said his journey to Akron has been one with challenges, but he relishes his leadership role with the team.

"I just want to make those around me better and help this team win," Ball said.

The Zips finished 5-7 overall and 3-5 in MAC play in 2016.
