Sam and Brad spoke with Jimmy Hanlin, golf host on SportsTime Ohio to talk about the Open coming up this Thursday.

Actor, director, producer Corbin Bernsen joined the Sam and Brad Show on a Thursday to talk about 'The Dynasty That Almost Was,' a MLB Network documentary on the dominant Cleveland Indians teams of the 1990's.

Bernsen narrated the documentary and also was a star in the movie Major League, which also was centered around the Indians.

Corbin also was a major part of the movie 25 Hill, which was shot here in Akron at Derby Downs, which took a special look at the All American Soap Box Derby.

When you think of the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational, world class golf comes to mind, but one of the most important aspects of the tournament is the charities that benefit from their generosity.

This year's Charity Challenge golf outing was scrubbed due to rain, but some great sports figures such as former Browns running back Kevin Mack, former Cleveland Indian "Super" Joe Charboneau, and John Hirschbeck, former MLB umpire came to the South Course to say a few words, tell a few golf stories, and talk about what makes this tournament great. Today, Tournament Executive Director Don Padgett III along with the athletes presented a check for $8,000 to Akron Children's Hospital, UH Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital, and Flashes of Hope, who were represented at Firestone Country Club. 

 Here is audio from Padgett as well as the athletes presenting the check to charity. 

That $8,000 came from last year's tournament.  In early June, an additional check for more than $1 million was split between 38 local non-profit organizations including the three being represented at Firestone today. John Hirschbeck says this event means a lot to him on a lot of different fronts."It means a lot, because we have our own organization in Youngstown, the Magic of Michael, after our own son, Michael who passed away three years ago, and we've been affiliated with Akron Children's Hospital, trying to raise money and help kids and families facing the 'curve balls 'of life," he says.Retired from umpiring, John says he looks to attend this year's tournament with his wife and see what this year's Bridgestone Invitational is all about.

Former Browns Pro Bowler Kevin Mack, who was invited to hit a shot for University Hospitals said that its an honor for him and other former pro athletes to give back to the community.

"Having been in this area for so long, anytime you have a chance to contribute to any type of charity, you always step forward," he explained.

Mack says he's played Firestone a couple of times over the years and he always thought it was a unique feeling to play where some of the world's greatest golfers have also competed.

Mack played for the Browns from 1985-1993 and now works with the organization in front office.

Charboneau says it's a "great instrument" to have the world's best golfers on a great course and spotlight some great local charities.

"That's what it's all about, helping people," he said.

The tournament runs from August 3rd, through the 6th at the South Course.

Longtime coach Jack Rose joined the Sam and Brad Show Wednesday to talk about his induction into the Stark County High School Football Hall of Fame.

Executive Director of the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational Don Padgett III discussed the new fan amenities coming to the South Course in 2017.

The tournament will be coming to Firestone Country Club August 2-6. Quite a few of the PGA's big names will be playing in this year's event.

Sam, Brad, and Justin got into the Feel Good Friday edition of the Wager of the Day!

Former NFL fullback Lorenzo Neal joined the Sam and Brad Show to talk about inducting his good friend and former teammate with San Diego Chargers LaDanian Tomlinson into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Neal played 16 years in the NFL. The Pro Football Hall of Fame will hold their ceremonies in August.

Sam and Brad spoke with Akron Rubberducks pitcher Cameron Hill to talk about him being selected to the Eastern League All Star Game.

Hill is one of four Rubberducks selected to the game, which will be played in New Hampshire July 12.

Devin Jordan, former Massillon Tiger and Ohio State Buckeye wideout came to our studios in the Akron Radio Center to talk about "A Day With The Buckeyes"  coming up this Saturday at Jerzees Sports Grille in the Belden Village area.

Jordan is currently the wide receivers coach at Walsh University and the President of the Beyond The Game Organization.

This free event is Saturday July 8, from noon-6pm and many former Buckeyes will be in attendance from Jordan himself, to Mike Doss, Chris "Beanie" Wells, and Brian Hartline, among others.

Sam, Brad, and Justin McKinney got in on the Three Question Thursday edition of the Wager of the Day! 

Sam Amico from Amico Hoops and FoxSports Ohio joined the Sam and Brad Show Thursday to talk about his recent article  discussing the Cavaliers' GM search and how Zydrunas Ilgauskas would be a good fit in the front office of the Wine and Gold.

Ilgauskas played for the Cavaliers from 1996-2010 and is the all time franchise leader in rebounds, blocked shots, and games played.

Akron Rubberducks pitcher Thomas Pannone joined the Sam and Brad SHow on a Feel Good Friday to talk about being named to the Eastern League All Star Game coming up on July 12.

Pannone is one of four Rubberducks going to this year's game in New Hampshire, along with Manager Mark Budzinski and the coaching staff who will be a part of the game as well.

Pistons beat writer Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press spoke with Brad Russell on Thursday to talk about Chauncey Billups and a possible front-office role for him in Cleveland.

Billups played for the Pistons from 2002-08 and then from 2013-14. The rumors are flying after Cavs owner Dan Gilbert spoke with Chauncey after GM David Griffin and the team parted ways.

Akron Public Schools Athletic Director Joe Vassalotti spoke with Brad Russell Monday to shed some insight into the team colors and nickname for Kenmore/Garfield High School.

The school will be housed in a new location down the road, but for now the Kenmore/Garfield Golden Rams will be located on 13th Street SW in Akron.
