Sam and Brad spoke with former McKinley Bulldog and Ohio State point guard Ron Stokes Tuesday to talk about Thad Matta's decision to step down from Ohio State University.

Stokes serves as a color analyst on the Ohio State-IMG Sports Network.  He discussed how Thad ran his program at OSU in the right way and the next steps as far as how the university will find it's next head basketball coach.

Sam and Brad got in on the Wager of the Day on a Monday during the Sam and Brad Show! 

After 13 seasons patrolling the sidelines in Columbus,  the Thad Matta era has come to an end at The Ohio State University.

Fighting back emotions during a Monday afternoon press conference, Thad thanked a litany of individuals who were instrumental in his success at OSU with the men's basketball program, but the most important catalysts during this run, where his players.

"Those are the guys that get the job done for me," Matta said. "And 'I'm grateful to them."

Matta leaves as Ohio State's all-time winningest basketball coach with 337 wins.

Matta expressed  that his time in Columbus was the greatest time of his coaching life, and when asked how he wanted his tenure with the Buckeyes to be remembered, it goes way beyond wins and losses.

"That to me is something I'm going to hang my hat on is that this program was run the right way," Matta said. 

Now that he has stepped down at Ohio State, Matta discussed his #1 goal moving forward is staying healthy.

Matta and Athletic Director Gene Smith said the two came to a mutual understanding that a change was needed in leadership of the men's basketball program.  Smith says the search for a successor will come immediately.

Sam and Brad spoke with Tallmadge head coach Kenny Linn to talk about the school's baseball title in Division II.

It's the first state championship for the Blue Devils in 15 seasons and coach Linn discussed the key cogs in this year's special season.

It's finally here.  The NBA Finals starts tonight at 9pm and the Cavaliers and Warriors are ready to hit the hardwood for the Larry O'Brien trophy.

"Mr. Cavalier" Austin Carr from Fox Sports Ohio joined the Sam and Brad Show Thursday to break down the series and Game 1 tonight.

Sam, Brad, and Justin got in on the Wager of the Day for Wednesday! 

St. Vincent St Mary Athletic Director Willie McGee along with Jerome Moss came into the FirstEnergy Studios at the Akron Radio Center to talk about the Hoop For Coop Minority Men's Health Fair on Saturday, June 3rd.

This health fair will be taking place from 12pm-5pm at East CLC.  The event will give folks a chance to not only get a free health screening, but also play some basketball as well. There's different teams already signed up including Buchtel alumni, St Vincent-St Mary alumni, and Burning Bush Church among others. 

 Willie and Jerome offered some background about the event, and how important health screenings are. 

Sam and Brad caught up with longtime North Canton Hoover softball coach Jerry Goodpasture to talk about the team's upcoming appearance in the State Final Four against Lebanon Thursday at 12:30pm.

The game will be held at Akron's Firestone Stadium.

At this year's Student Athlete of the Year Banquet at Todaro's Party Center, our Male and Female scholarship winners were seniors Samantha Wolf of Ellet High School and Clayton Langdon of Revere High School.

Both Samantha and Clatyon were both humbled and grateful to recieve the $1,000 scholarships to their respective schools.

 "It's amazing I don't know what to say," Wolf said.  Adds Clayton,  "It means a lot to me, I don't know what I did to deserve it, thank you," he said.

Samantha was a three sport athlete at Ellet,  as she competed in cross country, softball, and was a cheerleader.  She plans on attending the University of Akron and studying nursing.  Clayton competed in track and field for Revere as well as football.  Clayton plans on studying pre-med and play football at the University of Dayton.

 Congratulations to both Samantha and Clayton, and also thanks to our sponsors, NECA, IBEW( International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers), Akron Children's Hospital, Dominion, and Todaro's Party Center.

Longtime Indians beat writer Paul Hoynes joined the Sam and Brad Show to talk about the Indians as they prepare to face Houston in a three-game series in Texas.

Bradley Zimmer had a good day at the plate in the Tribe's loss to Tampa Bay this afternoon and Edwin Encarnacion has been up and down so far in the young season. Paul talked about it with the fellas Wednesday.

Former legendary Cleveland Cavaliers Radio Network play-by-play man Joe Tait joined the Sam and Brad Show on  his 80th birthday Monday.

Tait called the Cavaliers from 1970-2010-11 with the execption of two seasons and did some other great broadcasting as well throughout the years.

Tait said LeBron James, one of the league's all-time greats, will play as long as he wants to as long as he can play at a high level.

"It's been fascinating as far as a human being and to see him develop and play at the level he's played at," Tait said. "He's one of the best, one of the best ever."
